Re: "The survivors"

My mom's surgery at Sloan-Kettering is March 5. We're hopeful that this will be the last one.

gretchch,
Thinking about your mom's surgery on Monday.
I hope all goes well and that this removes the last of the cancer.

Re: "The survivors"

My sister-in-law brought home an illness from her work.
A week or two later my wife has it.
A couple of weeks after that I have it.
A virus with fever and a bad cough.
It is not the flu (we all had the flu shot) and there is nothing that can be done except let it run its course.
You're not safe in your own home.
Thanks Typhoid Mary Glenda!

Re: "The survivors"

It is not bad enough I can't sleep and feel like ____, the hot water heater went on vacation.
It is a natural gas side vent, the most expensive kind.
I guess after 15 years it needed a rest.
So do I.
The plumber is estimating $1,600 to replace the water heater with natural gas side vent.
New electric heater is half that price.
Its a no-brainer.

Re: "The survivors"

If you liked the planned outage today you will love the planned outage 3/8/2012.
Today's server software update took a little longer than expected.
Do you think the filesystem update will go any better?

Re: "The survivors"

When you are doing major updates to complex systems, you have to maintain a POSITIVE attitude.

I was always POSITIVE that something would go wrong, and it usually did.

So after a full day of work, you get to work through the night to get the upgrade done, then you get to work some more to figure out the problems.

Congratulations WCG techs for a job well done!

Re: "The survivors"

The part I liked best was that there were no audible alarms sounding or teletypes dinging.
It was kind of nice having no upper management observing.
911, hospitals, and the police department didn't even know it happened.
A successful upgrade!

Re: "The survivors"

grumpygrampy,
There is an easier way to get the average credit number for converting to GFlops.
Go to BOINC Manager>Projects tab>"Avg. work done."
Move the decimal point 2 places to the left.
You can do this with an Abacus.
I recently read that an Abacus was used centuries ago to do Algebra.
Somewhere in the period between use of the Abacus and use of the calculator was a period of time when paper and pencil was used.
I don't recall using an Abacus or calculator in any Algebra classes.

Re: "The survivors"

The software update gave me quite a large bump in the results.
Over 150,000 points in one day, which is 2-3 times the usual number.
I am very happy with the results.
May need a new graphics card or two when the cancer project releases GPU support.

I hope everyone is doing well, good luck to you.

Re: "The survivors"

The filesystem upgrade must be going well as everything is working.
No problems updating work units.
May have to watch the news at 6:00 and 11:00 to see if there is a mention.
