Re: Time for new project

Thanks jhindo for the update. Obviously, I'm not pushing for any further information about it until it's officially launched etc., although I really do hope that everything goes smoothly in the initial set-up/Alpha and Beta testing - as I don't think that there's anything which will excite people more than a new project coming on board biggrin

Re: Time for new project

Hi:

I would like to suggest that any new projects to be able to processed by BOTH CPU and GPU in the PC from the get go. Why not use 100% of the processing power of the PC?

If they can use GPU's, they will. But it all depends on the project applications, not on WCG's willingness.

Re: Time for new project

Hello Randzo,
may I recommend the Project SIMAP
http://boincsimap.org/boincsimap/
One of its advantages is, that the workunits are not too big, good for those with weaker machines.
All the best

Lol. I for one don't care about badges. I don't have the resources for all of them. I just like doing the science.

Agreed....there's a mountain of work out there......DSFL, SN2S, POEM, GPUGrid, Rosetta, Fight Malaria at home, Folding at home, Simap and Asteroids at home......Join me.

Re: Time for new project

Any updates on when the next project will be starting? With HCC ended and HPF2 ending soon, there are more ending or completed projects than active ones. If this keeps up, we will only have 5 active projects soon. It feels like things are shutting down and it risks people moving on to other projects. I hate to be a downer here but I am hoping things look up soon. And don't get me wrong, I am excited that these research projects are ending. We just need new projects to take their places faster. Currently it is way too slow.
----------------------------------------

Run time: 4.2y HPF2, 6.9y FAAH, 7.9y HFCC, 20.8y HCC, 26.0y CEP2, 26.0y MCM, 2.1y UGM, 2.0y OET
WU: 4.8k HPF2, 12.3k FAAH, 12.4k HFCC, 135k HCC, 34.3k CEP2, 43.8k MCM, 4.2k UGM, 19.7k OET

Re: Time for new project

ashrader330 - I don't want to make any promises yet about when the next project will be ready. And getting the next project on board isn't the only exciting thing we're working on - e.g. we've been working on adapting v7 of the BOINC client and that's getting close to going into beta testing for that.

As for GPU, as Falconet mentioned, this is driven more by the researchers than by us. Their research application needs to run on GPU before we can integrate it. While we have projects in the pipeline with GPU potential, our next project won't launch with GPU on day 1.
