Re: Time for new project

We just need new projects to take their places faster. Currently it is way too slow.

How so? There are still plenty of projects to work on. I like the idea of doing a little "house cleaning" so to speak before a new project comes online anyway.

Re: Time for new project

I for one am happy to give the GPUs a rest for the summer. I hate it when I have to run the AC when it is only in the high 70s just to counter act the computers. Note to WCG. If you could manage to bring on a GPU task some time near October.....

Crunching on with the CPUs until fall

Re: Time for new project

I hope more people try out CEP2 now. Those guys can use all the help they can get due to the opt-in requirement.

Re: Time for new project

I totally agree!

I have two computers with an i7 CPU working on this project since HCC2 was completed.

Too bad the Clean Energy project could not use the GPU hardware to speed up the processing like was done in the Help Cure Cancer project.

Re: Time for new project

Given that the May Pentathlon rather painlessly increased the CEP2 results by over 60% [See http://bit.ly/WCGCE1 chart for the effect] , I'd say "go for it", and use app_config.xml file [to be put in the WCG projects folder] to control how many are allowed to run [meaning you can buffer more than the client will allow to run at the same time].

Sgt.Joe did a quick back-of-the-napkin calculation (calculation and with GFAM, HPF2, and SN2S running at low priority, if those projects end as scheduled we will be running low system wide of work units. As much as I would love people to pick up CEP2 (my 2nd most project) but given its system requirements, I don't see that happening. I think WCG is running things a bit lean here and it is a risk. I am hoping HFCC comes back with target 11 soon but I understand the difficulties there. And please don't think I am trying to bad mouth anybody or anything here. I am just concerned about the situation. If people start leaving, it will be hard to get them to come back. And I would love to be proven wrong at any point here.
----------------------------------------

Run time: 4.2y HPF2, 6.9y FAAH, 7.9y HFCC, 20.8y HCC, 26.0y CEP2, 26.0y MCM, 2.1y UGM, 2.0y OET
WU: 4.8k HPF2, 12.3k FAAH, 12.4k HFCC, 135k HCC, 34.3k CEP2, 43.8k MCM, 4.2k UGM, 19.7k OET

If people start leaving while there is still work to be done, I'm not sure they had much motivation anyway. I don't see people leaving unless there is an extended period with no work at all.

Granted I'm sure there are a few crunchers with a "cancer only" agenda and those might take a look elsewhere.

I would not claim the Pentathlon was painless, neither when it came to CEP2 nor any of the other diciplines, but except for some minor problems with high server-load initially the Marathon with SIMAP was by a large margin the best project and also the project with least server-problems in this years Pentathlon.
