Re: TEAM Vulture Central III

hey guys, thanks for the warm welcome :)

and I already made it to the team stats - yeehaw ! :)

2 machines are running since 50 hours now - sometimes I play a game and then performence drops but thats OK for me.

I plan a test to install PC's in a garage ( see other post in new member forum ) and connect is via WLAN. It will take a while before I can do the test ( next week due to my vacation ) and I plan to get hands on machines that can be installed there. The positive thing is that as long as no one take note of what I do in the garage, as long I have hands on free electricy. keep fingers crossed that the WLAN test will run successfully - no WLAN no additional PC's.

Re: TEAM Vulture Central III

Look again. I was still working on the message. It should be correct now.

It would'a been ready sooner, but I had to stop to answer your question, you know..... cool

Do we have to transfer data manually to spreadsheets here too?
If you want.

At least we have some <ducking>

Re: TEAM Vulture Central III

Until you get a WiFi net you can use UD Monitor to setup caches on all your PCs. This is usefull if there is server downtime and you cannot receive new workunits or if you have some machines that have no internet connections.
Before you setup your garage machines, hook 'em up to WCG with UD monitor and setup at least 20 slots on each machine (no more than 2 weeks of work because results expire after 2 weeks approx). Once all Work Units are completed, if your PC is not too heavy and bulky, you can bring it to your internet connection and send your results and receive another batch to work on.
You can also use a USB drive to collect your results and send them via your connected PC (but this is not as simple as it appears because each machine has an ID and WU associated with them and this can affect your scoring calculations if your machines don"t have the same processing power); it can be done properly but you must be carefull not to mix up files when you move them from one machine to another.
The easiest setup is a network with UD monitor.

UD Monitor is a third-party utility designed to work in conjunction with UD Agent to provide additional features — such as caching, backup, monitoring and logging. It is widely spread among UD Agent users, and proves itself useful on many occasions, and especially during server outages.

As of version 3.00, UD Monitor also supports Folding@Home - a distributed computing project which studies protein folding, misfolding, aggregation, and related diseases. F@h support does not affect/hinder/interfere with the UD "part" of the program in any way. Read more about how to set up UD Monitor with Folding@home...

The intended audience for this document is made up of end users, no technical explanations are given.
A big amount of useful information can be found also in the FAQ's (English or Italian version) or on the UD forum, where a dedicated thread exists, and many users, along with the author, can provide answers to your questions.

Re: TEAM Vulture Central III

already using UDMonitor...
The only difference for WCG is that you need to start it using the WCG bat.

Re: TEAM Vulture Central III

adding computer crud to wife's new system. 128Mb graphics card, floppy cable and 1Gb memory. Memory looks bad...mem errors and blew away a workunit----took out mem and runs fine with the original 512Mb. Had to replace with a new workunit.

Some kind of weird green plastic thing inside Compaq that covers the screw heads. Gotta figure out how to get rid of it and poke out the front cover panel, and slide a floppy drive in there. There may be some online docs to look at.

Hi retsof/mousie

ouch!! but deserved - if we can still talk about them here.

The reason I asked about spreadsheets is - I've heard it is possible to access the WCG statistics server direct with a web query so stats would be kept up to date automatically, say on a daily basis in early hours of morning. Thought you might already be doing it. Tried various different things tonight (tonite) but with little success. Maybe go back to 'MyOnlineTeam' to dig further for assistance. They seem like a nice helpful bunch over there!

Re: TEAM Vulture Central III

You might ask Bok about it at http://stats.free-dc.org
He himself crunches for *22* different projects.
Sign onto his statistics forum and post a message in some appropriate place in the lobby.

I just copy some vulture stats from there.

daily basis in early hours of morning.
I don't have to wait that long, unlike at other places. 0000GMT/UTC is 7pm CDT here, early evening. Bok's stats run soon thereafter, and it is usually available by 7:30pm.

Boerni or Numist are other possibilities.
Boerni runs stats here 4 times per day to match the WCG 6 hour timetable.
