Now with my Compaq desktop, when I pulled a memory change, I had to enter the Bios setup then save and exit before the system would work with the new memory size. Don't know why it made a difference, cause I didn't physicaly change any settings myself. If nothing else, check Bios and see if it reports the proper memory size with the 1gb card installed. Late word from Fry's. The fast memory check passed, but the extended memory check on the 1Gb Geil failed, so it wasn't entirely my fault. It was bad to the bone to start with. Wife is coming back with a 1Gb Patriot to try with the 512Mb Hynix. Fry's says they've had good luck with those in Compaqs. Now that I've found what key for the Bios (F1) and got in there, I may try that idea when I put in the memory. I have to use a delete key for Dells.![]() When the machine was doing partial boots the other day, it had reported the correct memory with the first 1.5Gb...until it started over.

Other than size, does the 1gig chip match? I won't know until I see it and get the new one in there. They are both DDR (Which meant German Democratic Republic until it went away and the Elektronikers stole the acronym)....wife is still in the store and I'm elsewhere. I have been playing with the Everex thingy in the meantime. Good stuff. There's a chance that this new 1Gb chip will be a little faster. We didn't want to pay double the price for superfast. OK. Don't you have a workunit to crunch or something? ![]() 46% through my second unit on this machine. Looking around the web for info and posting doesn't take but tiny bit of CPU. Hmmm.. only 68% on the other puter....? Gonna have to do some tweaking on that one. ![]() "My Grid" page says "Statistics are unavailable until within 24 hours after returning your first result to the server" . Guess that means maybe I'll have more than one when they post.. hahahaha..... ![]() |

Other than size, does the 1gig chip match? The Patriot 1Gb chip was inserted, and the computer booted up the first time.No problem.
