Re: TEAM Vulture Central III

Looks like Crunchers United blew a gusset.
Unable to connect to database on 'localhost' with user 'hostedboard'

That's what I get in Vaio's SIG link now.

I had another thought for Pinky.

godaddy probably doesn't have much hosted webspace...might run out.

Better to buy the domain there and host it elsewhere, like ipowerweb.com.

Don't buy the domain at ipowerweb.com --- more expensive that way.

On the other hand, if they will give you one for $8/month including the hosting, may not be too bad. I have a break because I'm not getting a domain there and they gave me a special price.

email them and ask whether you can get a no-domain package any cheaper.

I've previously hosted at three crap ISPs which failed and went bust. Ipowerweb is very fast and very stable. It's only had 2-3 hours of outage in 3 years for me.

If anybody signs up at ipowerweb, give me a referral credit at retsof at texas.net

Unfortunately, I still have to pay a local ISP to dialin. I moved my website to ipowerweb.com because local traffic charges were even MORE expensive. If I didn't pay up every week, they just turned off the whole site. Annoying. Ipowerweb is very generous with traffic allowed. I have up to 20,000 hits per month with no problems so far.

....I wanted to check something. Ipowerweb also has a free
phpBB 2.0.10 Setup
included in the package.

Re: TEAM Vulture Central III

thanks for the suggestions, retsof smile

i had just posted that i was waiting for order confirmation a couple minutes before the forum died... went with ipowerweb for both domain and hosting, since you get a free domain with the 8/month hosting service anyhow.

then got 2 confirmation emails, so i replied to make sure they didn't charge me twice. the response i got was kinda confusing...was told the domain was taken by some other customer, even though godaddy still had it available, and that my order did go in twice, but were both now canceled since the domain isn't available, supposedly.

decided to hop online to their live chat thing. the guy i talked to confirmed that the domain was still available... and since the domain is a "freebie", not something paid extra for, i pay the 8/month...that's fine, it's pretty much the price everywhere.

but...the whole domain thing is making a mess of things...one says it's been taken, the other says it hasn't. i just responded to the person that emailed me saying it was taken...will see what response i get. maybe i'll get a discount for being run around in circles laughing

Re: TEAM Vulture Central III

if somebody gets a domain, it can sometimes take a day or three for everything to get propagated around to the internet .... so whois recognizes it as theirs, etc. etc.

Mine took only about 6 hours to get recognized.

http://www.internic.net/whois.html

It has another link for 2 letter country codes

hmmm. wonder if I got any credit?

I'm only paying 5/month for a domain-free package, you see. About the time I tried to say that, the forum crashed.

The redirects are also helpful for the sigs here. I can sign onto the control panel for my domain at the ISP and set some up. Since I got the shortest domain I could get, tx4.us, they can be really tiny.

I'm already using single letters as directories, so set up some tx4.us/rd* filenames for redirects.

http://tx4.us/rdl

Re: TEAM Vulture Central III

when i signed up, i didn't see anywhere that said referal...otherwise, i'd refer ya...or something like that

gonna give godaddy a shot...if it's really been taken, then it won't work, but if it hasn't, then it should be a pretty quick startup....last domain i registered there was good to go pretty fast...will see.

Re: TEAM Vulture Central III

Don't rush. You may already have it. I said that it takes awhile to get registered around the internet.

If you asked for it at ipowerweb, just wait for it to be authorized.
What's the domain? We'll watch for it.

Awww. Referral was on the bottom of the signup form somewhere. Oh well.
