FAAH

Three weeks after Alan/Scribe posted to say that FAHV (i.e. VINA) WUs had gotten longer we have an explanation from uplinger:
The fahv workunits have different targets which chang the size of the search box. We are working towards better calculating these workunits which will decrease or increase the number of jobs in a single work unit to have consistent runtimes. Again we are working on this and it may be some time before we get a better formula.

I wonder what they have in mind as an ideal time length for a single WU thinking

Personally I would hope ~3 hrs, which seems to be about the length of the latest batch of FAHV I downloaded.

In Other News

Saw a comment elsewhere from SekeRob about the BOINC workshop 10 days ago.

A series of videos were made and are available to view

I don't have time at the moment to watch and they may be too technical, but if anyone does look at them please post a note of anything interesting

[edit]
Watched Keith Uplinger and Kevin Reed: Update on World Community Grid and Results of our User Participation Study

28min running time. Of general interest to everyone. Some more detail on the background and findings of the User Survey. Sound quality was variable but generally ok. Didn't run on WMP but VLC was fine.

If nothing else it was good to put a face to knreed and uplinger wink

Had to download VLC to watch it. As I said elsewhere, the most important items to me were the ones concerning the Web/forum software and the disparity between the old Grid sowtware and Boinc......nice to see those resolved cool

Ranking Update

The UK team has advanced to #60 in the RunTime rankings displacing Kentucky Wildcats Folding Team biggrin

With the exception of a couple of places to be gained in the Points rankings, that's likely to be our last advance of the year:
