Re: FightAIDS@Home - VINA Android Beta Test - March 5, 2014 [ Issues thread ]

Running 4 concurrent tasks on following:

- HTC Desire 500
- CPU: quad-core ARMv7 Processor rev 1 (v7l) @ 1,2 GHz
- OS: Android 3.4.0
Mem: 779,68 MB physical (what is also the max when idle), 0 virtual
- BOINC 7.3.7 (from WCG Download)

After 11,5 hours, one of the tasks (BETA_FAHV_x4GW6bINleB_0348262_0056) is at 22% (for a long time - a few hours - it was stuck at 20,7%, seems it started to move forward after I restarted computer), the other 3 are around 40% each.

Cheers peace

All 4 returned

Since these were my first Android WU's chicken , I would like to ask somebody more experienced if such huge difference between CPU Time and Elapsed Time is normal, or I have to play with settings to decrease it?

Thanks in advance.

Cheers peace

I don´t know if I'm more experienced, since this is also my first android wu...
In my case the difference is much smaller.
I think there may be several reasons.
One is the fact that your processor has four cores. I have seen some posts noting that when all cores are being used, performance goes down. Another reason might be that Boinc does not compute when the battery is not charging. There may be other reasons contributing.

1. max cpu percentage setting
2. don't compute while processor usage is above x% setting
3. don't compute while battery temperature is above y °C/F
4. don't compute when battery charge is below z%
5. overhead usage (apps etc.). Try closing any unused apps.

I suppose the main reason might be the temperature setting. I have it set at 40-42°C and keep the phone on top of my PC case to keep to keep the phone a little cooler :) The battery gets also a little warmer when it's charging (<100% charge). Direct sunlight also makes the device heat up.
My SG4 usually has a cpu time efficiency of 92-96 % with these settings, using all 4 cores for computing.

[OT]Thanks ccandido,

The performances going down because of using all 4 cores might be the reason. Pausing the computation when the battery is not charging probably not - Elapsed Time is not increasing during that period.

Cheers good luck

[OT]Thanks herna,

1. 100%
2. 50%
3. 40 C
4. 30% (but was on almost or exactly 100% all the time)
5. have to check, but AFAIK, just e-mail in background

On the top of this:
- RAM limit 100%
- "Pause computation when screen in on" Unchecked

Cheers smile
