Re: FightAIDS@Home - VINA Android Beta Test - March 5, 2014 [ Issues thread ]

#16 turned valid for my device, one wing going invalid, which was the only invalid observed.

Now -my- stats:

Production: 6.7 copies needed for 1 going to scientist.
Beta: 2.55 copies needed for 1 going to scientist.

The difference is 4.15 more copies gone down the black hole. However you look at this, the production dump is 1.62 times bigger than the whole beta test (4.15 / 2.55). Would zero redundancy really be achievable the waste would be even bigger. Yes we SIMAP, 100% valid on 4 cores, just add their project the way you add WCG and know you can set and forget. Valid from the first result for all results, without exception.

P.S. BOINC Echo in the play-store is your on device project stats tracker https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.sf.boincecho

Re: FightAIDS@Home - VINA Android Beta Test - March 5, 2014 [ Issues thread ]

No idea how things reason under the brainpan of the wcg programmers and leadership. My calculation is that the 200 work units in quorum two netted to 454 results being reported in this beta, source daily beta stats. Assume all 54 extra were invalid this is 13.5 percent of 400. My production invalids were 38 percent with 42 percent valid, if only limiting to 2 threads, and 18 percent outright error. No invalid were seen for my wingman nor does armstrdj make mention of any ratios, only mentioning the errors were down. In any case, this showed up today on the boinc gmail group:
Rom,
It's a lot of work for me to update all my clients very often.
After hearing you have incorporated the above and
issued 7.3.13, or whatever, I'll try updating then.

Also, WCG is beta testing Android WUs and it's not going so good:
"Thread: FightAIDS@Home - VINA Android Beta Test - March 5, 2014 [ Issues thread ]"
https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=36432

The WCG Android WUs fail much too often and interfere with our clients,
unless nothing else is running on them.

Until WCG fixes their WU issues, I would not expect any great outpouring
of enthusiasm for testing or running 7.3.xx from their participants.

Thank you,

What is stopping wcg from promoting the beta application ad interim to production and get an approximate and immediate 280% reduction of invalid for android production, not to speak of the unquantified number of direct errors squashed is beyond many.

lavaflow maybe this might help make the point

I only have the one Android device and I do, like the WCG beta, occasionally have errors at SIMAP

Dear WCG

It's obvious

Do you want your Scientists to receive our contribution to their research or a n other ?

Regards
Dave

Most interesting those _0-- suffixed tasks, which are originals. Were more test tasks put in the feeder without announcing in the beta read only or discussion forums? What's the application version you see on the quorum detail screen?

No unfortunately not lavaflow

I just wondered if production had improved - briefly dipped my toe back in the water

Here's the carnage in production of my Pending Verification

Re: FightAIDS@Home - VINA Android Beta Test - March 5, 2014 [ Issues thread ]

that's a whole host of goodwill going to waste

If they are not going to promote the better beta then Android production ought to be halted.

At best it's brand damaging, at worst it could be deemed fraudulent the claim that your Android "Phone can now help power the search" into HIV research when for the most part, it currently isn't....in production

Re: FightAIDS@Home - VINA Android Beta Test - March 5, 2014 [ Issues thread ]

Right, overlooked the prefix. Noticed also there's mention of sn2s as being on android per the system requirement page.

Say No to Schistosoma 250 MB 50 MB Windows1,2, Mac1,2, Linux1,2, Android 3

1. Version for x86 processors is available
2. Version for x86-64 processors is available
3. Version for ARM processors is available

Was this application withdrawn after the initial test? If so, why is it listed as having made it to production? Is sn2s too iffy as not seeing entries in the daily project statistics for a long time.

lavaflow,

SN2S has been paused since May or June 2013. The SN2S application is the same as the FAHV one. I don't remember if it ever was available for Android.

Re: FightAIDS@Home - VINA Android Beta Test - March 5, 2014 [ Issues thread ]

lavaflow, when I look at the BETA work units that my Android devices were involved in, it looks almost the same to the one from FAHV production you posted earlier. Lots of errors from other users. Admittedly, 7 of the 8 WUs my devices were crunching got validated without problems (plus one error I had myself), but all in all I wouldn't call that round of BETAs an overwhelming success yet. Still a definite improvement, of course.

SN2S did indeed run on Android devices. But as the project is on hold, there are of course no tasks to be had -- for any platform. Unfortunately I can't remember how well that science app was running on Android devices...
