The "feature" is bugging me ![]() Hundreds of new members have been arriving, just yesterday 165, probably mostly specifically as a response to the call to outsmart ebola, and then not getting OET1 work, "but we have other projects too" ![]() Crowd-Crunch On. Well said Rob! +1 This is the very reason that so very many DC crunchers avoid WCG like the plague (or Ebola). Even the scientists cannot be bothered to post here. Stop wasting my time and my money WCG! Why is this running so slow?

So, if so many machines = idle, "then" committ them to other causes in the meantime. :-) It is not like FAAH, MCM, or CFCE dont still need our help.

Badges are nice, but it is not the ultimate reason we are here. Keep on crunching brothers!! I totally agree - when my machine is running 'low', I switch to UGM, fill my machines cache back up, then switch back. No big deal really - as, after all, I'm no where near reaching the goal I've set for myself with that project yet. ![]() |

Please note, this project is going to be running slower than our normal applications. So there will be periods during the day that no work can be downloaded for the application. So badge hunting in the early stages of this project will be difficult. Thanks, -Uplinger Posted in the badge thread. In other words, it's a feature, not a bug. Yes it is a feature right now, which is why we also made the project not auto opt-in. This way members who really want the work units download them instead of getting pulled by many other hosts. The reason for it being slow is we have limited number of rigid work units available before we get to the flexible ones. As mentioned in the beta forums these flexible ones were taking a long time and without checkpoints. So we are working on a fix for that at the moment. Instead of getting to those flexible ones before the checkpointing is working better. Please be patient as we ramp the project up to normal speed. As mentioned, in the early stages, badge hunting will be difficult. But we are planning to make it easier in the future. As others have mentioned, we do have other great projects that you can donate your CPU time towards while the project is running slowly. Thanks, -Uplinger |

Stupid project - make a world wide announcement of a topic that is extremely important and then have no work available. Dumb just dumb.
WCG project credibility just took a dive. |

It is not unusual in IT projects to start small and ramp up to full load.

why did they bother to announce when they knew it would have a massive psychological attraction they should have just added it to the list of projects the true crunchers would soon have discovered it thus allowed WCG to slowly crank it up - WCG will never learn

The OET project lured me back to WCG, and now that I'm here I find there are no work units. What were the OET project managers thinking?

The OET project lured me back to WCG, and now that I'm here I find there are no work units. What were the OET project managers thinking? In plain language, this is simply stupid. Perhaps I will be back next year to see if they have sorted out their mind fart. ![]() Alternately, you could consider the fact that people are dying and that any work available that could alleviate that is worthwhile. If there's even a remote chance a useful work unit is available now, why sit on it? If the small amount of processing I can get ahold of in a day might save somebody's life, I'm all for it. |

Adding more people to the queue waiting for work that may not show up does not speed up the project. In fact, if it overloads the servers, it could slow it down. There are plenty of people around at the moment to take anything offered.
The real limit is the scientists' ability to provide the work. If they rush too quickly they will make mistakes. I also wouldn't want them providing make-work projects just to keep people happy thinking that they are doing something useful. So I would let them do their thing. They probably didn't know how many people would respond to their request, and they got more than they expected. And we are just in the first few days; they will need more help later. |
