Does Omicron escape antibody immunity induced by leading vaccines?

Importantly, most vaccinologists agree that the current vaccines will still protect against severe disease and death in the face of Omicron infection." According to a study from Africa Health Research Institute https://www.ahri.org/omicron-incompletely-esc...ed-by-the-pfizer-vaccine/ According to a German virologist early data shows: "our first dates for Neutralization of Omicron versus Delta is done: 2x Biontech, 2x Moderna, 1xAZ / 1x Biontech after 6 months 0% neutralization with Omicron, also 3x Biontech 3 months after booster only 25% NT versus 95% with Delta. Up to 37 times the reduction in Delta vs. Omicron" She points out in one of her replies that the data does not giive any indication whether a vaccinated person is safe from developing a severe illness when infected. Yet the data shows vaccines have to be adapted to Omicron according to another tweet of hers there. Biontech = German company which developed the"Pfizer" mRNA vaccine (here it is commonly known as Biontech vaccine). Two doses of a Covid vaccine are not enough to stop you catching the Omicron variant, UK scientists have warned.
Early analysis of UK Omicron and Delta cases showed the vaccines were less effective at stopping the new variant. However, a third booster dose significantly increased protection to around 75%. https://www.bbc.com/news/health-5961500 |
