thnaks for the update. I guess that the quick speed in this case was due the possibility to run SCC in ARM/Android devices which multiple by millions devices capable to work for.... but it is my guess ! . . Hi, . . I suspect it was due more to the thousands of aimlessly wandering Seti@Home orphans, like myself, trying to find another project to make our machines useful. That project had huge volunteer resources that are now being applied elsewhere, and the downside is that we are depleting the work in projects such as this very worthwhile endeavour. It is now time to find another one it seems. Stephen < shrug > ![]() Unfortunately it's down to circumstances - the Temple team that works on SCC is launching OpenPandemics, making it harder for the overall SCC team to make more WUs. ![]() |

The SCC project team has nothing to do with OpenPandemics. You are thinking of FAAH2. However, it is the Scripps Research team led by Dr. Forli that is behind OpenPandemics, not the Temple team. At least, as far as we know, the Temple team is not involved (maybe they'll collaborate like they do with FAAH2). SCC is ending merely because we have completed all the work we had against the 2 target proteins. One more target is being prepared, although we don't know when or even if it will come to WCG. Good to hear that we have many people joining WCG. On the other hand I am worried that we run out of work for Android systems. Without SCC there is only MCM left for Android. You can try the OPN-1 Beta, which is for COVID-19. If you don't mind cruching for projects other than WCG, there's Rosseta@Home currently running project for COVID-19 too. And you can try Asteroid@home to help research on asteroids, just to keep your phone busy before SCC returns.

I'll go die in a corner after unmerging all those monthly reports together in my head.

Well, no wonder. My Android TV-box run 24/7 just for SCC. Now it's idle. ![]() Enable MCM and wait for OpenPandemics as well. I know but MCM told me that I had 89MB storage space short ![]()

We had originally estimated that the latest set of work units would last until the second half of May. One of the probable reasons that the work was completed more quickly is that we've had an influx of new volunteers in the past few weeks, and Smash Childhood Cancer is one of the most popular projects with many volunteers. question: If there are so many new volunteers, why is the total runtime for WCG essentially flat or even slightly declining for the past few weeks? Was kind of expecting to see statistical confirmation but it didn't happen.... None of the 3 statistical categories reported seem to support that conclusion but I don't put much stock in the points (for obvious reasons) and results (24 hrs of ARP is fewer results than 24 hrs of SCC). Runtime is the same regardless of project. Just curious... |

It is possible that with the cessation of SCC, many of the people who only had that project selected have not yet chosen another project. If they have selected another project, there will be a lag in any projects with quorum of 2 due to validation and verification of units. If they have chosen ARP and they don't run 24/7, with those long units, they will take several days to complete a unit and report it, thus another lag. Some of the new volunteers may simply register and wait to select a project when the pandemic project begins. There could also be several reasons I have not yet thought through. Cheers

There really should be a warning when users select
----------------------------------------"only one project, no new projects when they become available, no other work if my project is no longer available". We seem to lose a lot of crunching power each time a project completes. I for one doubt that fans of phase 1 of a project would be against participating in phase 2. in fact I lost 1-2 days of triple core computing after SCC ending due to a strange BOINC client behavour which didn't even try to ask more work after device profile update to start MCM.... I was forced to brake my #stayathome condition and walk out to the office for client restart... they really don't update Linux client for years, maybe should try to do it manually
