I'm looking for MCM WUs, and I keep getting this: 03/09/2022 10:03:27 | World Community Grid | No tasks are available for Mapping Cancer Markers 03/09/2022 10:03:27 | World Community Grid | Project requested delay of 121 seconds I appreciate it's a Saturday morning, and folk will be at home. Just thought I'd flag this up. There are no tasks for any projects at this time. I run Mint 21 and Windows 11 on the same computer, and the Mint 21 installation almost ran out of tasks overnight. I expect improvement when the servers are up again. I run with a 2 day cache and have also seen these messages. I have enough in the queues to last until probably Sunday night. If I run out, I will just shut down all of the crunchers except for the Win machine in the house, which is used for a lot of other things, until such time as more units are available. Since we are still in the testing phase, these disruptions are probably inevitable for a while. Update 02:28 UTC: I have ceased getting any more units for the Windows machine, but am still getting them on the Linux machines. Cheers

I've been getting a steady stream of MCM units for the past few days with no download issues. I booted up another machine today thinking the download issues were resolved. Downloads started stalling again this afternoon. I set the new machine to NNT. It will stay that way until Krembil gives some sort of all clear sign. I'm keeping my two main crunching boxes on Folding@Home until this whole mess gets cleaned up.
----------------------------------------I'm having a hard time understanding why the download issue is so hard to fix. It appeared to have been fixed last week. I started contributing to WCG in 2008. Things were never this bad when IBM was running the grid. I've tried to not pile on in the forums about all the transition issues. But this whole thing is really pathetic. The researchers haven't received results since February. I'm starting to wonder how much meaningful work is actually being run on WCG. Cyclops, why is new work available when there continues to be issues downloading the necessary files to actually run the work? This makes absolutely no sense. Please stop new work, fix the download issue then restart new work. All you are doing is frustrating the contributors. [Edit 17 times, last edit by AgrFan at Sep 5, 2022 12:30:35 AM] |

Very slow downloads, and "transient HTTP error" is back. Very slow website. No OPN1 or OPNG tasks, all I can get is MCM1. I do not know about ARP1 tasks, since I have not selected ARP1.

I am downloading MCM1 and about 40 ARP1 at excruciatingly slow download speeds and transient http errors.

Transient errors are back again here too. In massive numbers.
----------------------------------------Its starting to get really annoying now. It seems there is no real movement to a structural solution for all the problems. The complete lack of updates from Krembil is not relly helping too... [Edit 1 times, last edit by wildhagen at Sep 5, 2022 4:02:09 AM] |

Well, they did hire a new communications intern. Unfortunately, there's not that much communication. And when there is, there's not much actual content. In fact, an AI-Bot saying 'we're working hard, we hope it's better next week' would come very close.

AgrFan:
The researchers haven't received results since February. This is like spreading fake news. Please check your statements before talking nonsense. See this post.I'm starting to wonder how much meaningful work is actually being run on WCG. Not as much work as we would like. Please remember we are still in a testing phase.why is new work available when there continues to be issues downloading the necessary files to actually run the work? This makes absolutely no sense. Please stop new work, fix the download issue then restart new work. The point is that they are testing how to distribute and to keep distributing work in this phase. The transient HTTP errors stopped after distribution of new ARP1-workunits was halted. However, after releasing new ARP1-workunits the transient HTTP errors re-appeared. Maybe they wanted to test if the transient HTTP errors were less of a problem now. ![]() |

Well, from Friday Sep 2 and forward, this has not been getting any better. On the contrary the way WCG works now, it's getting worse and worse for each day that passes.
----------------------------------------I have an almost endless amount of patience, but WCG is losing thousands upon thousands of volunteers, and if the project ever comes back to normal, it's not going to be able to deliver to science anything even close to what it delivered before this migration. I even question how much patience Krembil will have with Jurisica lab, and if this extreme delay will perhaps make Krembil pull the plug on the entire WCG project. WCG has been on "life support" since February 28 this year, and by the looks of things, we're not even close to a full restart, and back to normal. Sorry for the negativity here. I'm usually very positive, and have been positive during this entire migration. However, even my almost endless patience is now beginning to wear thin. I agree, I'm also running out of patience. We are 6.5 months into the migration now, and it seems not even the most basic of issues is even remotely solved. Old, previously fixed issues are reappearing etc.
Krembil apparently isn't too interested into structurally solving the problems. Also, the lack of updates suggests they don't care about the project and its volunteers at all. Why would we wait on them and not move to another project, which takes their project and their volunteers more seriously than Krembil does? |

I'm not sure why they hired a communications intern. There have been few updates. They must be very bored.
I was hoping for an update on Friday, but without noticeable progress we all get a bit gloomy. I'm sure they are busy fixing whatever caused the "transition/validation" error. I still have a few WUs that two results have come back, but it hasn't either declared it valid or issued a new copy. They have blown their estimated time... and probably their money as well. I commend them for taking this project on. I hate sorting through other people's code or setup. Especially if they aren't around to ask questions of anymore. I'm still hoping they getting it working. I'm sure they can get some people back, and attract new people. There is probably a core of people like me that aren't interested in another project yet that are just waiting. The size of the volunteer base isn't the worry now... it is getting it working. |
