Re: World Community Grid complete restart

I'm moving on to other BOINC projects, until the WCG team realize that they do not have the infrastructure to run ARP, and finally pull the plug on running obsolete African rain data from 2018-2019.

The rain patterns over Africa, isn't the same in 2024, as it was in 2018-2019, due to the ongoing, and increasing climate change, making the ARP data totally obsolete today.

Re: World Community Grid complete restart

Has WCG now moved to hardware running on Raspberry PI connected vie a 56k modem to the internet? It's uncredibly slow, tasks are neiter down nor uploaded, the website is slow like a snail. What is going on here?

LM

No. ARP1 has restarted and their file to be downloaded are about 1 million times the size of MCM1. Consequently when everyone started to download them all at once their servers could not cope.

It should stabilise before too long.

Re: World Community Grid complete restart

Hallo Allerseits,

Re: World Community Grid complete restart

Don't other projects use some sort of Gzip for their large files?
Compress the files sending and receiving into some smaller?
I see one ARP task in my queue for uploading (going on 48 hrs for some now) that is in 6 segments. That's nuts Thats about 100MB waiting to upload to a overladed system.
I'm getting very annoyed with this nonsense and am stopping with ARP until they get this under control.

Check back on ARP in a few weeks.

The size of the ARP1 project files are huge, specially compared to most other projects. But that has been that way every since the project was first started still under IBM's auspice. Everyone who enables this project should be aware of this from the get go. But a lot of people seem to just ignore this. And that with the overall strained resources due to a much more limited budget than it was available under IBM, is resulting in the current download and upload issues. And those people just don't see how they have contributed to the issue, and doing that and acting according to the restriction originally set by the project would be a first step to alleviate the issue.

Let's hope that someone at WCG towers has a chance to do something that helps to lessen the issues over the week again...
