Re: May 2023 workunit update

@Cyclops, I am unable to get anything from SCC, ARP or OPN. I hope you're able to unstop the plumbing soon because I am learning to do without WCG project tasks. Some point soon, I will likely give up on waiting and refocus on projects that need volunteer computing.

Re: May 2023 workunit update

Hello everyone, we are aware of BOINC client communication issues with WCG servers -- we are investigating the cause. There is sufficient pool of WUs available, and it doesn't look like anything is down or wrong -- we will update you as we learn more.

a server status page would be clearer

SCC - had problems with a data file causing virtually ALL WU's to ERROR OUT, WCG is troubleshooting the issue; not sure what the current status is on this.

ARP - is primarily RESENDS from "no replies". I suspect WCG is trying to clear out that backlog. They (resends) are released sporadically.

OPN - I believe, has finished the current batch and awaiting further action from scientists.

But, I'll let Cyclops give you the official reply.

With the number of machines asking for ARP work units I find it hard to believe they have any backlog at all unless it is caused by some internal process in Krembil's back room.

Hi Freewill, as you have probably noticed, MCM1 units are the most common workunits in circulation right now, with ocassional batches of SCC1 being sent out. We are still looking into the cause of these issues and how many workunits of each project are in distribution and will post an update when we learn more.

I have received 4 ARP1-tasks recently on one device:

$ wcgstats -ws1 -aARP1 -m1 -rS
* Let's try to locate the workunit.
There is 1 page of results available.

* Showing page 1/1 of all ARP1-tasks with status ’1’ on device 1 (ID=4366670) [redacted]:

Re: May 2023 workunit update

Status of SCC1

After inspecting the SCC1-tasks that were sent to me recently, these are my observations:
- the flow of SCC1-workunits is normal (i.e. much less frequent than MCM1);
- three types of SCC1-workunits are still being distributed at the moment: MyoD1-A, MyoD1-B and MyoD1-C;
- all tasks of type C (MyoD1-C) are erroring out.

What is the result of this?
- the error causes resends for type C and they are added back in between the flow of types A and B;
- the error also causes the need to verify other SCC1-tasks that are returned by that client;
- this need for verification creates another flow of extra tasks and they are also injected into the 'normal' flow of SCC1;
- I think the extra tasks don't increase the speed of the flow of SCC1-tasks.

Also, the erroring type C are all from batch 0004175 (SCC1_0004175_MyoD1-C).
Once these will all be cleared out, the flow will gradually - as verification of other SCC1-tasks will take time for all affected clients - turn back to normal.
Batch 0004175 contains - just like each MyoD1-A and MyoD1-B workunit - 100,000 workunits. (Note: this is an assumption.) (*1)
Just as long as tasks of the erroring type C are flowing, all these tasks - and other tasks that are being returned - will keep needing verification, generating another round of resends. (The resends for type C will eventually halt when a certain maximum has been reached.)

[*1] Workunit-numbers for type A and B run from 0000 to 99999. The latest and highest workunit-number from type C that I have received currently is 22559.

Re: May 2023 workunit update

A WCG tech should really intervene on the SCC 4175 problem work units instead of dragging their feet tbh. I don't even know who the techs are since they don't post here.

+1 Adri! Good write-up!

Unfortunately I just received a SCC1 4175 MyoD1-C :(
