Since the "HOT CONTEST" thread's subject line suggests that it applies to just BitBenderTech and HomeBrewers -- whereas it is really open to ALL teams -- I'm starting this new thread in order to replace the topic line and clarify that everyone is welcome, and I'm requesting that the original "HOT CONTEST" thread be closed. There are currently four teams in this contest, but EVERYONE is welcome to join -- and it's never too late so long as it is still February (and maybe we'll have a new contest another month).
The following formula which I propose to use takes into consideration how many days your team was in the contest as well as the original size of your team (to prorate and fairly compare large teams with small teams), with the following variables: CM=current-members CM@end is the number of current members as of last statistics update CM@start is the number of current members when the team joined the contest (end - start) = the number of days that particular team has participated Dividing by 'CM@start' prorates the results to compensate for original team size. Using that formula, this is where our teams stand as of this time/date (02/07/2006 23:59:59 -- last statistics update): BBT (BitBenderTech) = (38 - 36) / 5 / 36 = 0.011 (that represents a gain of 2 members in 5 days) HB (HomeBrewers) = (39 - 33) / 5 / 33 = 0.036 (that represents a gain of 6 members in 5 days) UF (UserFriendly) = (214 - 160) / 6 / 160 = 0.056 (that represents a gain of 54 members in 6 days) VC3 (Vulture Central III) = starting with 23 on 2/7, first results will post tomorrow. Thanks. Bill Velek |

The following formula ... Awww, shucks. I forgot to insert the formula ... DUHHH ... It is (CM@end - CM@start) / (end - start) / CM@start = recruitment points, with the following variables: CM@end is the number of current members as of last statistics update CM@start is the number of current members when the team joined the contest (end - start) = the number of days that particular team has participated Dividing by 'CM@start' prorates the results to compensate for original team size. I'm starting this new thread in order to replace the topic line and clarify that everyone is welcome, and I'm requesting that the original "HOT CONTEST" thread be closed. Awww. You should have been able to edit message #1 to do that, at least for 60 days. I wonder how long we can stay at zero new members?

BBT (BitBenderTech) = (38 - 36) / 5 / 36 = 0.011 (that represents a gain of 2 members in 5 days) HB (HomeBrewers) = (39 - 33) / 5 / 33 = 0.036 (that represents a gain of 6 members in 5 days) UF (UserFriendly) = (214 - 160) / 6 / 160 = 0.056 (that represents a gain of 54 members in 6 days) Your day counts are screwy. UF should be the same or less than HB and BBT. I backdated the member count to match yours, but we can use the joining count if you prefer. Nothing like moving the goalposts half way ;-) |

Nothing like moving the goalposts half way ;-) We have goals? ![]() This is not intended to be personal. That's just an anti-sappy comment from despair.com, a local company.

First, regarding 'retsof's comment, I don't see any way to edit my posts, unless you mean to delete the post and then resubmit a new one after editing.
Second, regarding 'Didactylos' comment, I don't see how the day counts are screwy. The contest started on Feb. 2; UserFriendly posted their current member count as of February 1st, to which I have no objections; this gives UF an extra 10 recruits who signed up to your team on Feb. 1st. Therefore, if you are going to get the benefit of 10 recruits on the 1st, then you should have to consider that your recruitment started one day before HB or BBT. The reason HB and BBT are not counting the 1st is that we did not agree to compete until the 2nd, and obviously probably would not have attempted any large recruitment campaigns until the 2nd or later. If UF wants to use the 2nd as it's start day -- the same day that BBT and HB started -- that's fine; you just can't count the recruits before your start day, so your starting number on the 2nd would have to be 170. But with 10 recruits on the 1st, I just assumed that that's how you want to play this. I'm not trying to make this complicated -- just fair -- especially for new teams coming in late. And for clarification, I would consider that when a team joins on one day, they are not counted as having a day until the next day -- if you join on Tuesday, then on Wednesday you've been in it one day; of course, I'm not going to get into splitting hours, etc. Third, regarding 'Flanders' post inquiring whether it's too late -- no, it's not too late to compete. But you do need to tell what team you're one. ![]() Finally, have I screwed up my settings somehow, or is the WCG website making my forum posts wider than my screen settings, i.e., no automatic wrapping of lines? I hate this -- having to scroll horizontally. Cheers. Bill Velek |

There should be a little paper and pen icon in the upper left to click on for editing.Okay. I see it now. I didn't see it earlier. Duhhhh! But the biggest pain is the width of this thread; am I the only one who needs to use horizontal scroll. This is the only thread I've encountered this with. What, if anything, did I do wrong? Third, regarding 'Flanders' post inquiring whether it's too late -- no, it's not too late to compete. But you do need to tell what team you're one. It is. I will add the 'SuperBytes Belgium' team, effective Feb.8 with a current membership of 61, so they will have one day of recruitment as of tomorrow and they already have 2 recruits for today. Someone please let me know if I have that wrong. Here is an updated link showing all current participating teams. Cheers. Bill Velek P.S. Will someone PLEASE help me fix this line-wrapping problem? Thanks. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Feb 9, 2006 5:44:44 AM] |
