who can tell me why Tuesday is the World Community Grid's best day of the week?
----------------------------------------Tuesday is the day we always pull out all the stops I can get my head around Saturday and Sunday and then Monday is a slow ramp up as the sun goes around the globe and then Friday is winding down for the weekend or POETS day as it's known in these parts. I'll get nelsoc'ed if I explain ![]() But why not Wednesday or Thursday ![]() Are there any cultures that move our weekend around the week skewing the results? I know it's sad but seriously I'm intrigued Dave ![]() ![]() |

Could it be an overshoot caused by the weekend's "pending validations" this would seem reasonable but it was happening pre BOINC

I have a theory!
It relies on timezones, geographical distribution, and computing habits. We can probably assume the bulk of the WCG members are located in the US/Canada. The map shows more in Europe, but I feel that Europeans are more likely to specify their precise country, whereas merkins don't feel the need. Rollover is 0 UTC, or early evening in the US. This means that Monday evening's crunching while catching up on email and so on will be counted as Tuesday. We can assume that workplace crunching will be fairly steady through the week (maybe dropping off on Friday). Weekend patterns are different, obviously. So that just leaves evening crunching as our variable, and I'm fairly certain that the average Joe tends to do such things more at the beginning of the week than at the end. Mid week they're too tired, Friday and they're off out. So, we get the peak on Tuesday. That's my theory, and I'm |

My own experience is that machines gain most points the day after they are put to work.
----------------------------------------When I connected 4-5 machines here in the office, 2 days later the big "flush" came and my personal record was broken. Later I connected another 5 machines and the same thing happened. Later I had a crash and about 8-10 machines were down. When they went up again, 2 days later the big "flush" came again. So I've been noticing that the most output is gained 2 days after a machine is connected. I guess that this is the same for the people who turn-off their office machines over the weekend and turn them back on on Monday. just my 2 cents... ![]() ![]() |

Aside the "average Joe" qualification for WCG crunchers, have a look at team Rochester Community & Technical College (in Minnesota i guess). Steady as a rock , except they seem to have changed their pace in the last week exponentially, BOINC maybe. No Tuesday peak except this probable BOINC effect. Anyway they are POST UTC 00.00 based.
----------------------------------------I concur with the general thought that extra flushing takes place on mondays to a larger extend than other days. Timezone consideration, UTC effects (sse Rochester e.g.), Tuesday should be a top day. For sure, if a machine is set to e.g. 2 days, it will not send "result confimations" until it goes out to fetch work. First thing people do on monday is hit that project update button (thru Remote admin or personally). ![]()

As David Autumns said, this isn't a BOINC effect - so we can't attribute it to any particular BOINC feature.
Different teams have entirely different crunching patterns - many are fairly steady throughout the week, others have a weak or strong weekly pattern. Some drop off entirely at the weekends (company teams in particular). |

Thanks for the feedback
----------------------------------------This week looks to be following the theory (no Bank Holidays) Wednesday being 353 PC's down on Tuesday. The moral of the tale so far would appear to be if you want to do business and clinch that deal Tuesday is the day for it as everyone is "switched on" ![]() ![]() |

Didactylos, my BOINC comment strictly related to the complete step change Rochester seems to display this week.....way more points (or on reflection, way more machines).
----------------------------------------BTW how many use UD Mon?
