Re: Minnesota Crunchers

I got gkrelim running. Tried to instal x sensors i found but not working. lm sensors installed but can't find it to run it. Will play around some more when I have time to figure it out. At least I can see my processors temp. Not sure if I can do anything about the nano sleep. Any ideas? tnks

I would go way back to BOINC 5.10.45 and see if you get the same problems.
I would install this one: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/dl/boinc_5.10.45_i686-pc-linux-gnu.sh Install it into your home directory and start it manually and just see how it runs. Make sure the downloaded file is set executable (right click, properties, check the box "make exe..") and run it from the root of your home folder. It should then make a folder in the root of your home folder called BOINC.
Change to that folder and type ./run_manager and go through the connection wizard.
Just minimize the boinc manager so it stays running since it is not going to be a service.
I'm reading that the nano sleep problem is only on some Linux systems and started with version 6 of BOINC when they started integrating the GPU crap.

Edit: Fixed grammar. I think faster than I type.

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Decided to sell it so I can build another one. Just put it up on craigslist. I'll try your suggestion to see if this will fix it this weekend. Any minnesota crunchers looking for a dual 2.5Ghz quad core tower? Listed it for $1100 but will sell it for $1000 to any team member. Been a good crunching machine.

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

The weather in minnesota is nice and warm but way to early for that. Afraid were going to have bad storms this summer. We broke a record for not having snow in the month of march in over 100 years. Not good. I would like to build a dual hex core myself but those chips are pretty high. Hoping for a price drop since AMD came out with there 12 core chips. Would be nice if they did.

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

I agree the weather has been nice in a strange kind of way. No snow in March has been really odd. At the beginning of March I think I had close to 2ft of snow all over the yard. It was gone before the end of the month. My neighbor has plowed his corn stubble under, but has not disked yet. I suspect if the weather holds and the ground warms up he will have his corn in before May 1. That would be about 2 weeks ahead of schedule. Hopefully we do get the April showers and we do not have a repeat of 1988. That year there was no rain in April,May,June or July. It did not rain until the middle of August, but that was only good for next year as all of my crop was dead by June 15. But can't dwell on the past.

I salivate when I see the new multicore horsepower coming out, but oh my, the prices. I will be watching for something newer to hit the used market. I will also be waiting to see just what Bearcat might have up his sleeve.

Might not have time to post much for a little while, have many other tasks to do this spring, plus work is busy, busy, busy.

Sorry to SWhite retired from the team. Good luck to him (or her). They are always welcome back.

Very nice scene UltimaThule.

Cheers

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

With the high price of the six cores, am looking at the E5630 Westmere 32nm quad core. 599 at Newegg. At least I will be able to swap the for the six core when they become more affordable. Going to wait one month in hopes the 6 core will drop. If not, then will start buying the E5630 parts. Hopefully be running by June. biggrin
