Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Right now my queue is full of DDDT2 W/U's.

Not quite sure how you are snagging those unless you have it listed exclusively. I have it checked, but only get about 1 or 2 per month. Must just have to be lucky when they release them.

Bearcat:

Are those upcoming Sandy Bridge chips socket compatible with your existing machines or you looking to get/build another one ?

Cheers

Absolutely, only check the DDDT2 box and they will pour in right now. Don't know how long they will last so I would do it now. Stock up while you can. coffee

No. Sandy Bridge is socket 1155. Westmere is socket 1366. Not sure when the xeon version will be out but this time I might go single socket and try overclocking. Never OC before. Looks like the prices will be pretty low compared to 1366 chips in the same ghz. They get released next month. Havent heard what prices on motherboards will be yet. Hope not to expensive.

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

just an FYI for those buying a SSD drive from microcenter. Any of the drives with a mail in rebate only allows 1 per customer. Its not shown on the ad. Just filled mine out and found out the hard way as I ordered 2 of the 32gb OCZ.

DDDT2 seem to be slowing down a lot at this point, but are still dribbling in if you've selected DDDT2 only. There are lots of "Message from server: No work available" messages in between receiving DDDT2 WUs.

I received my two in separate shipments, and had an odd email from the company in between saying I might not get the 2nd one at all.

The info about just 1 rebate per household was in the fine print of a PDF file that I suppose a customer *could* have clicked on before ordering (but I hadn't done so either). If the product is any good, then $50 for 1 unit and $70 for the other still is a good deal.

Bearcat, have you installed either of your new drives yet? I won't be installing in my existing machine for another couple days and my other one is for the new machine I'll be building in Jan. So I don't have any experience with their performance yet and am curious.

It looks as if both you and we are due for some more snow in the next 24 hours. Down south here in Iowa, we only have about 3 inches on the ground so far though; I don't think we're going to catch up with you guys any time soon. tongue

Put one in my westmere system under windows for now. Going to test it as a scratch disk. Will wait until beginning of next year to install the other in one of my crunchers. Will do a total reinstall when I do that.

Though you had more snow than that. Will get a couple inches here by st cloud, but west and south are supposed to get hammered.

The Iowa City area was just on the edge of recent storms. Other parts of Iowa have way more snow than we do.

I like to walk in the morning when it is really cold like that. Usually there is no wind and you can hear the birds really well since the air is so dense. Easy to pick them out in the trees.
The weather story ... http://www.crh.noaa.gov/wxstory.php?site=mpx is looking like 2-4" here in the SW metro. I got about 26" of snow on the ground here in S.W. Bloomington. beat up
Here's a dumb question...how do you tell what your actual time vs. your CPU time after the work unit has finished and left? I ran one CEP2 unit and I wanted to see the results. Is there a log somewhere? nerd I've never really cared before about real vs. CPU time and don't know where to check that.
