Re: Minnesota Crunchers

I've heard unofficially that the HCC scientists have another 3 or 4 months of work they can toss into the pot and that they are looking for more. This is all unspecific, uncertain and hence unofficial but it certainly seems as though HCC will still be going strong when Spring arrives. Lawrence

This is from a Lawrence Hardin quote from another thread. Looks like everybody will be able to keep their GPU's warm for a while yet.
Cheers

I am basing it on this chart from SekeRob which is usually pretty accurate and it says only 48 days left.

If the scientists dump in more data I am pretty sure he will update his chart to reflect it. All is speculative now.

You are right, the GPU's are making the difference. I might do 75 HCC with the cpu on a good day. I am guessing 6 to 7 million of our daily total is GPU related. Keep it up. laughing
On my octo with HCC and CEP2(limit 2) I am only getting about 50% HCC with other projects filling the gap. A lot of "application not available" messages. sad

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

My 6950 that was going on the blink is getting replaced with another one from sapphire (RMA). Had about 3 months left on warranty. Should be here next week. Still no word on my mobo that the USPS played football with as far as replacement. Might have to buy a open box board just to get this cruncher up and running until my replacement comes in. Just a shame my 3770K is just sitting here not able to contribute. crying

Are there any significant differences between the various manufactures of GPU cards?

To some extent, yes. Have to read all the details and compare. Some push it to the extreme. My 7870 is an OC version. Higher speed than my 7950 but different technology. I see prices dropping so figure the 8000 series will be popping in the next few months. Looking for anything in particular? The 7700 series is probably the best bang for the buck. The 7900 series is a true double precision card.

Everyone enjoying the snow? That wind is going to be a nightmare if those winds crank up as predicted.
