Amount of work to still run on HCC

Based on the researcher's latest estimate, there should be at least 6 months of work still to perform on the Help Conquer Cancer project if we continue at the current rate. This can change if the rate of progress changes or if the scientists acquire more data to process.

Re: Amount of work to still run on HCC

So, if I read this correctly, that means at the current time there should be about 90,000,000(2 jobs per WU) (180,000,000 with quorum of 2)WU available. If we do about 1,000,000 per day (slightly more than we are currently doing) that is 180 days or about 6 months. So that would mean approximate end date of June 15, 2013. The gauntlet has now been thrown to see if the project can be finished before then if the scientists do not find more work. If they do, so much the better. Good news I am sure for all of the GPU crowd.
Cheers

180 days [at least] from Dec.10, 2012, makes it on my calendar June 10, 2013 earliest. :D

Re: Amount of work to still run on HCC

Thanks for the update Viktors. So there's 6 months worth of work still to do, but how many of those are GPU WU? (I imagine that the WU's for CPU and GPU are distinct.)

Now, if only I could find a 7950 or 7970 at a good price! wink

as far as I know, no. Obviously I could well be wrong here, but from what I've understood, it's just a 'big pot' - so, whether it's a CPU or a GPU asking for work, if there's some WU's there, they'll grab them.

The HD 8000 series will be out sometime in the first part of next year. You could wait for it, or at least the prices on the 7000 series will drop.
But to get the most out of those cards, you have to devote several CPU cores to it, so if you are working on other projects, it may not be worth it.
