Re: "The survivors"

When the BETAs begin to validate I will have enough to get a Gold badge.
They are not validating quickly.
About a month ago queue sizes were reduced to about 0.6 days so that WUs return sooner.
18 have been returned and 27 are In Progress.

I did restarts while the BETAs were running and there seemed to be no problems check pointing and restarting.

Re: "The survivors"

193.35 hours of BETA testing completed.
That was enough to qualify for a Gold badge.
It only took 7 years to get it.

Re: "The survivors"

Good going on the Gold BETA.
There was a thread some months ago about "what's expected of a Beta tester?", and the answer was 'try to break it - restarts, pause, power off, etc.".
I did restarts while the BETAs were running and there seemed to be no problems check pointing and restarting.
kind labor intensive for the casual cruncher, but exactly why they run Beta tests.
I expect to have a beta badge in about 2025.

Power off?

In this 7.29 BETA they were fixing a check point problem.

Normally I don't do restarts but in this one instance I was inspired.

Re: "The survivors"

Where is SekeRob?
SIMAP shows results returned today.
http://stats.free-dc.org/stats.php?page=userb...160f1740bba8b1e852bf61241

I am truly sorry that SekeRob left WCG.

The sudden departure is curious.

Don't know why he left but wish him well wherever he is!

Re: "The survivors"

Beta: What does one expect of you?

http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread_thread,33139

For those who like making the extra effort, and accept things will not always work as expected (points issues being one *not* on the list), here an attempt of capturing most looked for items, in no particular order at this time:

1) Resuming after suspend, with LAIM (leave application in memory when suspended) on and off, without hanging or crashing.
2) Restarting the system to test if results will resume in proper, as per 1).
..a) do not return to the beginning (zero progress, when for instance the task was at 40%)
..b) start running without needing manual intervention, beyond what the client would schedule in order when there are other tasks in "waiting to run" state.
3) Progress is recorded in the client, and sticks after any of the above.
... (Does progress oscillate, retreating, progressing, retreating...)
4) If checkpoints are recorded at intervals set in the client (the "no more than" frequency rule)
5) If tasks run much longer, never ending.
6) If [average] CPU time use is per client settings (e.g. 100% orof spare cycles).
7) If the tasks in anyway impair use of computer (brand new "anonymous" betas in particular).
8) If the graphics window comes up (Beta does not have the full production graphics though)
9) If progress shows in 8)
10) If graphics window closes correctly
11) Any very extraneous RAM/VM/Swap file memory use, not warned for by the technicians
12) Any extraneous disk IO, not warned for by the technicians
.... (operators of e.g. Process Explorer look for Large Paging Fault delta's)
13) Any errors (not warnings) logged in the event/message log.
14) Any Result log errors, not the benign warnings that show in every task result output.
.... (close up watchers can monitor the stderr.txt file in the task slots\xx for up to the minute detail)
15) ...

from Sekerob, May 2012

(i only have 2 working brain cells left [1 i reserve for eating and drinking], so couldn't remember all i had read here). biggrin
