Re: stroke

It's fine to hear this. smile

Maybe it is a good idea for you and your wife to take a stop in the daily hurry and have some calm days to enjoy that life has become normal again. (Who knows what comes next in these times of mad terrorism and increasing weather extremes.)

/edit/ typo (again blushing )

Re: stroke

I'll be adding another 4 GHz in the next two days. It is unfortunate that Vista machines abort jobs when restarted without exiting BOINC Manager first. This is a known problem and should be fixed soon.

Our team has passed three teams in points generated since I posted the last snip.

[edit] Johnnie is fine, VaVega, and it is nice to see that you found me. (As if that were hard to do.) I missed your post because I was posting at the same time. Are you bringing us some firepower? <wishes> [/edit]

Re: stroke

I'm glad Johnnie is ok. For so many meds the line between medicine and poison can be very fine. Is she taking lanoxin for hypertension? There are so many good blood pressure meds around I didn't think diuretics were used much anymore. I take atenelol for tachycardia and it works really well.

Our team has made a lot of progress. Right now my stats are down because I'm getting dozens of errors from the output of my fastest machine - AMD 4200+ dual core. If that doesn't sort itself out by Monday I'll have to contact tech support to see why they're sending me a dozen WU's at a time and almost all are coming back as errors.

I'm waiting for the AMD quad core chips to come out before building another machine. The first 2 ghz barcelonas are supposed to be out in August but I'll probably wait for the faster chips that will be out in October or November.

Re: stroke

twilyth, Johnnie has a mechanical Mitral valve, pacemaker, congestive heart failure, and weakening of the heart muscle on the right side. Other than that, you'd think she was fine if you saw her at the beauty shop. She is 5' 1", 112 pounds, and looks younger than 65. Despite the medical history and condition, she is a fighter and could outlive me. smile

There was a string of twelve errors on the new HP dual core Intel E4400 Vista machine last night, but some of those jobs have been returned without errors by others. I wonder what Dean, the owner, was doing? devilish I'll have to drop by his house and check it today. Dean gets free support from me in exchange for his CPU cycles. He has some addictive surfing habits that keep me, Avira AntiVir, Windows Defender, Spybot S & D, SpywareBlaster, and CCleaner busy. wink

Re: stroke

Vester, sorry to barge in: Probably the simple fix is item 5 of the Vista FAQ in the Start Here forum. BOINC 5.10 is better behaved, but in reality it's a root Vista issue. 6.0 should have a permanent solution (when SP1 for Vista has been out i suppose).

Re: stroke

Vester: It's good that that she was brave enough to get the valve replacement. My mom had rheumatic fever as a child and had stenosis of the mitral valve. If she had gotten it replaced, she might still be around. The only down side is keeping the blood thinners at the right level.

I wish you both the best of health.

Re: stroke

twilyth said, "My mom had rheumatic fever as a child and had stenosis of the mitral valve." Exactly the same here. Johnnie got her St. Jude valve in August of 2000.

Thanks for the information Sekerob, but I run World Community Grid - BOINC Client version 5.8.15. That machine had valid results before and continues to have valid results. There could have been corrupted downloads.
