ok, im done with the second test. now i will run dddt as a control case until the cache empties. If im right, the slows will be gone. If the series works, I should see no difference if i put the HCC project back on the midrange single core machines.

I'm still running with HCC to keep the communication to a minimum, but now that I have had time to take a look them I am also seeing page faults of 100K+/sec so I'm pretty sure that is why I'm getting such a difference.
I have also just upgraded all my systems to the latest boinc (5.10.30) which at first glance seems to have reduced the pf's a bit....I'll give that 24hrs to settle in before I look again :) |

Maybe you could try it with another project, to see the difference...

update from my mum:
Hi there! I had some not-so-good news this week. After a needle biopsy of some calcifications, the radiologist found that my breast cancer has returned. The good news is that it is an area about the size of the tip of my little finger & it is contained in the same breast as before. All the medical staff is on vacation until after the 1st so I don't have an appointment with my surgeon until the 3rd. I'm sure we will be talking about a mastectocmy. That proceedure doesn't thrill me, but I feel very blessed that I have very good doctors: they have found it very early and it is not life-threatening. So I am saying "thank you" prayers after an attitude adjustment of feeling sorry for myself. Steve is being very supportive and bringing home movies and meals so I won't have a lot of time to dwell on this. I'm working on quilt blocks for another teacher who is just getting back from Mayo undergoing treatments with throat cancer. We are going to spend Chistmas with Steve's folks & then I am heading down to Ft. Collins to spend vacation with Stephanie & the kids. They will keep me busy for sure! Just wanted to wish you all a blessed Christmas and a beautiful new year! I may not get my usual number of Christmas cards out this year. I'll keep in touch. Thanks for blessing my life with your friendship and your prayers. I think my best gift this year was that of early detection. Love, Sherry Hey! anybody know offhand why i end up on some of my machines w/ 5 or 6 completed results, and showing they've maybe been uploading for quite awhile and nothing is happening. I don't check on these comps very often, when i do a restart seems to make it work again, but when i look at it a few days later, same problem. i've had to reset project once or twice on 1 comp b/c a reboot didn't work, and ended up tossing 4 or 5 results. -chuck p.s. if i don't see ya guys for a bit... Merry Christmas!! Happy New Year too!! :) |

Maybe you could try it with another project, to see the difference... Already done that, I was running dddt before but it was killing my branch network...you can see the difference here...guess what date I changed to HCC... |

Roger,
----------------------------------------The DDDT project is the shortest of any work unit to do. HCC is, as far as i can see, the hardest, but not by much. FAAH and Folding take many times more effort to process than DDDT, as this now has become the newly recognized results leader. Like the genome project, results process so fast on your class of machine, that if you blink, you might miss 1 or 2. What needs to happen is for everyone to get a comfort zone. For right now, dont worry about HCC if it hurts to do so. I want to work more on HCC as well, but am hard over to DDDT to see if the stats return to normal using the fastest work units as the first benchmark. If this becomes true, then I will do the same with FAAD and Folding. As soon as I am sure of the stats again, I will do the "pc100 to DDDT, multi core to Folding or FAAD, rest to HCC" trick. Once this problem is pinpointed, the faster we all can run HCC with no pain. So dont look at this as some wierd trick for me to play to deny you from a dream. It is for us all to get comfy again. Because people dont like to be in pain when they are working for free very well. ![]() ![]() ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by courine at Dec 24, 2007 3:31:54 AM] |
