Re: I'm concerned

Do you want to know why so few people here have any real spirit. It's because if you are anything other than a sheep, you are seen as a problem.

Dataman, you dont know it, but you just brought yourself in to her sabotage attempt. Is that what you want? If you really want to hurt this place, turn off your avid thinkers as well as leaders. You will do so much for the herd here at WCG.

You may want to bend it anyway you want, but this team is for tigers. If that hurts, I'm sorry. Really sorry. Really really sorry. I'm just not saying for who.

Dataman, you must assume I'm sick in the first place. Realize, what I see here is a sickness called apathy. And people wonder why this place doesnt get anywhere, you limit yourselves. It's because anyone who is avid, is sick. This seems to be policy even. Thus making them leave quickly.

Let me explain something else, anyone who uses the "gorg" term anywhere in this forum, is in violation of the rules. It slanders the lineage of another DC group, yet is allowed and is used freely. Why? Because this place was founded on those who left grid.org who were (cough, cough) slightly less dedicated. So if there is a source to this term, it comes from a form of childish stupidity. The same level of stupidity that would allow someone to walk into a VA hospital and tell all Veitnam vets's there, they are baby killers.

Am I sick if I complain about this? Must be. Yep, must be.

So Dataman, who is the sick one? You want to end the sickness here, end the apathy that keeps this place small and drives out the avid.

Hey, it must be really hard for those who find out I wont leave. It must really really hurt. To that, I'm so sorry, I'm so very very sorry.

Now before the usual blow off, what are you concerned about??

cool I'm gone

Well, it's another bubye!

I am detaching from this project.
Why?
Coz, I am not paying the electricity bill for erroneus and invalid results. I think that climate is much bigger problem for mankind than illnesses that control population growth. Don't think I am careless for the sick, I just think that those who haven't got cancer yet, should have a better chance to survive.
I'll be looking for a project that is looking for cleaner power sources or just cleaner ways to live, rather than polluting earth with my PCs being always on. You can call it cutting my costs, but its also producing less pollution when I switch my PCs off for the night and I do not switch them on till I need them.
For now I'll keep climate prediction on for times when my PCs are on, but when I upgrade one, I'll rather use the new PC's power saving features than let run boinc.

shock Re: Pepe's gone. (and not just wandering)

Where do you want to move to? As frankly I dont blame you. So let me know where you want me to move to, as I have come to respect your judgement when it comes to the matter of worth. I can move the operation here, there. For I, like you, have noticed the stats descrepincies.

There is another thing. This question came from a "guest" of the forum to me by email:

"Why is something so important, so small?"

Re: I'm gone

ATM, I am moving priority to climateprediction.net, but later I might be switching off all boinc activity on PCs and let my servers do work only, as those 2 computers are always on.
For sure I am going to switch off all PCs when I am not around! Using less power is what we need now, because I am convinced, that lots of illnesses are due to pollution that is caused by us using much more power than we need.

biggrin Re: I'm gone, but not too far away.

I looked into the power footprint that WCG makes. Even if all the machines were powered by the one power plant queried near where I live. They could provide all the power needed for a complete day of 24hr crunchers, in 20 min. The pollution footprint is less than 1/1000's that what cars in the area averagely put out for the same amount of time and the cars do it all day.

If you feel you are polluting the world by crunching 24/7, do you drive a car to work? Crunching is one of the most efficient uses of power on the planet, in perspective. As you have to look at what it replaces.

WTG Team!!
Our electrical costs have tripled in the last 3 years, but I still keep my machines crunching 24/7.
Why?
I've seen firsthand what cancer and other diseases do to people.
I've had cancer, my wife has diabetes, my daughter has psoriasis, my grandson has asthma. Pollution may be an issue at times, but computer efficency has advanced at a much faster pace than any other form of energy use.
A 20 year old fridge used 175% of the power the same Therm rated unit uses today. (But a 20 year old fridge still works, a newer one won't last that long)
Based on Moore's law of CPU speed doubling every 18 months 3x18=54 months=4.5 years.
A computer from only 4.5 years ago used about 150% of the energy that one today does, and the new one provides up to 8X (2x2x2) the CPU speed/crunching power.
If you calculate the cost per CPU cycle, even with higher prices for energy, it's lower today than even 4.5 years ago. That also means less pollution per cycle...
