Our weather here has been unusual as well, we have only had 6% of our normal rainfall for May, and the forecast is for very little for the rest of May. That does not bode all that well for wildfires, does it?![]() We don't have them often, and rarely in forests, but they may occur in heath areas. They are somewhat difficult to put out. The growth is mainly heather and other low, dry, frugal plants, but the soil is like peat. We have had a case where fire burned underground for half a year or more. Also, water is not readily available in those rural areas with few people. We have one going on now on it's fifth day ![]() |

Also, water is not readily available in those rural areas with few people. We have one going on now on it's fifth day If this weather pattern holds til our normal dry season ( mid July to Mid September) it will most likely be a disastrous fire season. You have seen what our forests are like, solid fir trees on steep terrain. When fir trees are very dry they explode into flame like they have gasoline poured on them in a forest fire. They use planes with water tanks built in to scoop up water and helicopters with huge buckets they dip into lakes to dump water on the fires, they also dump fire retardant chemicals. We also have the smoke jumpers that will parachute into areas what are hard to reach by other means to dig fire lines. We also have fire underground after a forest firs the fire will burn underground for weeks as the tree roots burn. Luckily we don't have peat as i imagine it's impossible to put out. ![]() |

Yes, I have seen those never ending forests on steep mountainsides.
I have also seen on TV how you fight those wildfires. Very impressing. We don't have this sort of equipment, but I have seen it used on TV in the Mediterranean countries. Last year Portugal with it's non-native eucalyptus forests (with EU subsidies) was hard hit. We went through an immense stretch of charred forest in Northern California in 2009, and I wouldn't have liked to be around while it happened. |

Good Morning Base Campers!
Computertalk BladeD has his new one up and running. He said it wasn't hard: The hard part was MS/Windows doing it thing BEFORE I could use the PC! I can relate. I felt like entering a wind tunnel when I switched on my modest new phone 'D' .... ![]() I have two now needed to be adjusted for my use - a factory reset of Saphir12-Nathalie and the new one. The interface of the new one is surprisingly changed (Android 7.0) - and seemingly very attractive - compared to the old (Android 6.0) It's hard to boil them down to a simple life, though ... - and I need another SIM card, and a new battery, and having glued the back cover firmly in place ... ![]() - and perhaps an adapter and certainly a 3 m/10 ft cable recharge cable for use in my bed and for my hospital bag - hospital outlets are far back of your head - and downloading of these 'improved' apps Commandoprompt I would like to move to another team – but my computer is next to useless… I would not be able to change my signature. I’m running some scan in the black commando prompt window … I’m scared I found I had difficulty adjusting the brightness of my screen and looked for a solution - other Danes must have had the problem, because a Microsoft help page suggested I KLiKed ’Windows tasten + x og vælg kommandoprompt (administrator) Skriv dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth og tryk på enter, vent på kommandoen er færdig. So that’s what I’m doing. Some people – especially women – are scared of walking in a wood at night. I’m not ![]() ![]() It has performed the first round and has proceeded to the second It takes its sweet time. It says it’s ’in a verifying phase of system scan ... 41% complete’ I’m glad it’s not speeding. It runs the hardware fairly hot as it is – I hardly dare look at it … or touch it … - and Randbøl Heath is still pretty hot, too … - and my diagonally upstairs neighbor is trying desparately to drill in our armored concrete walls with a dull drill they never want to spend money for a fresh sharp one … I have to evacuate this madhouse as soon as that system scan is done switch of the computer for a cool down and reboot to see if it helped at all and take a walk .... 92% complete ![]() ![]() |

![]() Good Morning Base Campers! Computertalk I don’t know what happened to the brightness of my screen. Nothing immediately, not after the reboot either. Rummaged in the foreign zones of drivers … - the one I have should be the best on the market, the system claimed – it’s nine years old … ![]() nevertheless when I turned my back it got a bit brighter. And today it braves the sun coming out ![]() Process diagram At some management class decades ago, we made a process diagram of how a family of four will get out of the door in the morning. Quite entertaining. You cannot do this until you have done that, and in order do that you need to already have done another thing. Amazing that any family makes it out of the door. The only fixed thing was the alarm clock going off. After that the activity was chaotic. The process diagram technique can be applied to many things. My life with IT for instance. As to Sapphir12-Nathalie, the back cover is ready to give way completely; it has to be fixed. Soon. But she needs that new battery, and for that she has to go out of town. Out of country? To Sweden? She cannot go until I have the SIM-card for ’D’. I have to have a phone at all times. My diagonally Downstairs Grethe must be able to call me. She’s not well. Shouted for me this morning. - good thing I hadn’t started my fitness with ’Dancing in the Moonlight’ playing yet. I found her lying on the floor inside the entry door. She did not bring her phone taking her little dog out. She claims it’s too big for her pocket as opposed to the old one. She’s a little old lady, and I do fitness. We negotiated with her ailing back which way to do it. None of us have trained for it. Found her my little bag to wear across the chest for her to carry her phone at all times. Wasn’t easy. Had moved it to a new place when I did the super cleaning. Never do that. Move things. Where were I? I need a SIM-card. My ISP’s website doesn’t give any clear information about how to get an extra one with the same number for a second phone. Only how to get a replacement if your existing one goes kaput. Rummaging around at my ISP’s website, I found I had used all of 53 minutes of my allowance of 20 hours of talk!!! I had 16GB data left plus 29GB of my wi-fi broadband. So shouldn’t I spend it on ’A Bridge Too Far’ – fourth run – and some of the other movies on the list? The library streaming service will give me 4 per week … I could see some of the streamable TV-programs I listed during several month, too, if they are still available. 'Putin according to Oliver Stone' four installments ![]() Done with my fitness. Time for the dentist. Our Nordic gods are great personalities. Thor the warrior god, started up his chariot with his team of goats, lifted his hammer and thundered across the sky. Got soaked in spite of umbrella. Rosie’s ’Parrot’ with the USB stick in it ![]() set out with Surrender Five minutes to spare hoping for rain to settle some. Sitting checking wordgames. Phone call from dentist – eeeehhh! ![]() In spite of three calendars and an SMS reminder … 15 minutes wrong/late … Dentist is great! I count my blessings: Dentist, hairdresser, and doctor. Wonderful team, and all of them young enough to last me out. When the dental assistant dropped one of her pokers: ’Never mind, I didn’t really care for that one’ and my fit started in my diaphragm … when she received the new poker: ’I like this one much better’ all three of us cured any dental fear that might be sitting out in the waiting room …. Where were I? Yes. SIM-card. ISP is quick. Well, they don’t. Ordered another subscription – complete waste of money, but who cares at my age? I need convenience ![]() - and there is still lots of the day left .... ![]() Time to get serious. Left the penguins and joined SeriousCrunchers for a bit. |

--------- Mount Osorno woke up! Everyone is alert, and my little brother who lives on the other side of the lake, it makes him laugh! There is no smoke, everything is fine as he says. But, it's a bit scary, anyway. ![]() |

Little Mermaid,
---------- Normally, everything should be fine. All the inhabitants have all they need, masks, etc ... The Army is on alert, in case it is necessary to evacuate. But that the volcano has woken up, does not mean that there are big risks. He can stay like that for years without anything moving. We did a video on Sunday, he talked about it while laughing! They are used in Chile, it's like the 'tremblio' (small earthquake), for them it's normal. We (Europeans), the first time it's all weird. ---------- An opportunity to do a trek in Chile? Welcome to Puerto Varas! This small town of the Cordillera, has a great particularity in terms of architecture. This is also why the church is on almost every postcard. Why ? Because a long time ago, it was a German colony. Even today, there is a large community of German origin, with a school where classes are in Chilean and German. And, it's easier to find a German beer there, than in France. ---------- Between the city and Mount Osorno, there is Lake Llanquihue. The 2nd largest of Chile. In the direction of the length, it takes half a day to cross it. But that's what we show tourists. Finally, I invite you to a place much less known, but I find even more beautiful. Admire the Osorono from the other side, with the waterfalls! A little paradise for a picnic? ![]() ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at May 29, 2018 3:05:54 PM] |

So we’re getting a free trip to Chile, stefada. Thank you very much.
Fossaw and I have just been to the Falkland Islands to give the penguins swimming lessons - I don't know if Fossaw left, we lost track of each other, and now we are invited to the left half of South America. Wonderful. ![]() ![]() ![]() Those pictures are so beautiful. Eric_Kaiser will appreciate your information about the German colony and preserving the German heritage. The air looks so clean and the shape of the Mount Osorno is mezmerising. Yes, let’s have a picnic at the waterfalls. The water looks clean, too, and I take it we need to wear wetsuits for our swim because it must be cold. So I just found some for us – fancy stuff nowadays Good Afternoon Base Campers! Shop talk Well, I stayed at SeriousCrunchers for perhaps 5 hours and changed to team SNURK and friends. I have worried about SNURK for a long time. He hasn’t in his office for about two months. Joining his team gave me the opportunity to e-mail captain SNURK. I’m not sure he noticed that, but he did visit the Forum today, and he did post, and he said updating of his SNURK sign will resume when the bureaucratic quagmire has been overcome. I hope he’ll find the energy to work on his huge backlog of orders for new SNURK signs – among them one for TLD. I’m back with SeriousCrunchers now. D I ordered a subscription for him. I shall have the SIM-card in 3-5 days. They even gave me the opportunity to choose my new phone number, and they managed to get the final four digits identical with my existing phone number of eight digits. 50% success. Not bad. I get a discount, because now I have three subscriptions – in the Netherlands you sell yourself to a subscription ![]() I learned that from adriverhoef. A very weird concept. What a difference from the olden days of KTAS – Københavns Telefon Aktie Selskab – the monopoly phone company. You have no idea how they harrassed their customers. They had nowhere to go - like acpartsman must chose between one ISP. I have phonephobia because of them. I hated when I had to call them – private or from my job. I dreaded it for days, and sure enough they maltreated me awfully so that I went to pieces which were only slowly assembled into a functioning person over some two weeks again. May days This unbelievable weather has resumed. 25C/77F. Humidity 49%. It feels hot. I cannot understand how I survived Rhode Island. In the summer of 1991 we made a heat record of 104F/40C ![]() |
