Chit-chat Today Danish tourists to Paris, France, are advised to avoid the central parts of Paris because of demonstrations ...  I understand M Macron has postponed the extra tax on fuel that was the initial reason for the demonstrations Here we have rainy weather enough to disperse demonstrations without the use of water cannons  Yes, the situation in Paris is quite complicated. Many museums are closed, all shops are protecting their showcases, 36 train and underground stations are closed, the Telethon (3 days to raise a maximum of money for rare diseases) has been moved to indoor studios... The problem is that the "Gilets Jaunes" are coming to damage cities and to hurt policemen. 317 people have already been arrested today in Paris (it is only 11 am here). They have no leader nor clear demand. Moreover, they are avoiding any political party. Many of them have never been interested to politics. They are just exhausted by the differences between rich and poor populations. Gas taxes were just "la goutte d'eau qui a fait déborder le vase". Even if Macron has cancelled it, that's not enough for them. Everybody is anxious to repeat what happened 50 years ago for May 1968: riots. Some people want that . Sorry  Here's the link you want, BladeD   [AF>EDLS]GuL, I'm from the socalled '68 generation, and many of the activities of that time had a forward pointing purpose: Rebelling against authoritarian systems and what have you and aside from the more violent episodes - of which you had more in France than in Denmark, many useful ajustments resulted. I think it's a good thing when young people rock the boat. After all the French Revolution shaked things up all over the World for the better  I think it's a bad thing if people destroy for the sake of destruction without any purpose. I hope your weekend will run better than feared .... here it says 487 persons were arrested as of 11 o'clock |
