Re: Badges... Who's got badges

When we near the end of a project like this, and many of us make it our exclusive project to try and earn the next badge, does that speed up the completion of the project, or does the scheduler just send out less work units from this project to those clients accepting from all, thus maintaining balance?

Re: Badges... Who's got badges

If the number of exclusive requesters allows it "the scheduler just sends out less work units from this project to those clients accepting from all, thus maintaining balance."

If there were really many more exclusive requesters and enough WUs to distribute, then that might speed up the completion of the project. But usually badge hunters who reach their aim or who see that they have no chance leave the project and so things get balanced and the project receives only its fair share of daily contributions.

Re: Badges... Who's got badges

After I maxed out on blues I turned to crunching Rice exclusively for quite a while (6:145 credit) because I had some old & slow PII, PIII, MB's with only 256-384 max memory, I actually went back to crunching all projects with opt into new projects checked after I saw the announcement that Rice was ending soon, so as to conserve wu's for those needing them for badge upgrades. I was still very surprised at the amount of Rice I got (5days credit/day) figuring others would go after the remaining Rice exclusively, so there was still plenty to go around.

Re: Badges... Who's got badges

I checked last night and with total plus cached plus 21 hours of PVs was still 4 days short... I checked this morning and it appeared to be 2 days over!
I've got almost everything switched to DDDT2 now.

I should get sapphire tonight or tomorrow, so that's about 14 CPU-days per day more for those who need them.

Happy crunching!

Re: Badges... Who's got badges

I finally got my first blue badge with the last stats run. cool
I was really worried that the project might run out of work before I reached the level like the last 2 or 3 projects to complete. I will leave the rest of the crunching here to those still trying to reach their next level. On to HFCC and DDDT2! Good luck to those still trying. good luck

Cheers coffee

Re: Badges... Who's got badges

My first emerald. Back to all comers (minus Rice) until we get a little closer to the Childhood cancer end of project, when I'll probably need a concerted push to turn that one green.
