Either way, what drives me to keep crunching is the feeling that I'm doing something for humanity. I hope the dedication, along with costs (electricity/hardware) is worth it in the end. As do we all, Vincent. Thank you for your contribution. You have the "right stuff" and you will do well in all your endevors in life. ![]() ![]() How does video card crunching work if I have the cards in SLI? If I have one video card with a C2D, does that mean I have to dedicate one core to the video card? GPU crunching is still in it's infancy (how cool). Build 6.3.19 is the recommended version and it does use one core for the card. Build 6.3.21 only uses 0.09 of the core and uses the rest for cpu crunching (2+1 for a CD2). It has some bugs though. 6.3.24 is out ... but you have to have bigger balls than I have to use it yet. ![]() Don't you have some homework to do? Classes tomorrow. ![]() ![]() ![]() This might be my worst week in college so far. ![]() I want to get a 260 GTX or 2 SLI 9800 GTs in SLI. But I'm not sure if my PSU can run it.. :X If I can sell it for $60 it'd be nice. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139004 And then get a 750W. ![]() Video cards are expensive for students who have no income. ![]() SLI is still glitchy on PS3Grid, I would go with the 260 GTX. |

I think the 260 will be more energy efficient and probably still perform better due to the improved architecture. Its what I'm going to upgrade to next. 9800 GT is a great card though - just not enough performance difference over the 8800GT both in game AND in PS3Grid. |

Well I'm getting whatever is cheap on Black Friday. It's for my gaming not for PS3Grid (even though I'll crunch). Here ya go, Blizzie. Not cheap, but you know you want it! Not worth it. I can build my own for cheaper and I can overclock it. It doesn't even list what motherboard is in that PC. Edit: Here's a quick build EVGA X58 SLI Motherboard - $339 Core i7 920 - $320 G.Skill 6 GB (2x3 GB) PC3 12800 - $280 EVGA 260 GTX Core 216 - $270 CORSAIR CMPSU-1000HX - $240 OR CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX - $99 Case, harddrive, etc is preference. :) But above is what I would get if I were to build a i7. I have been looking at this and then slipped over to the Dell site. I found this . (a Dell with the I7 920 Vista, 4 gig of DDR3 at 1066MHz, 500GB Sata Drive, a 20" Flat Panel, a 256MB ATI Radeon 3450, DVD, Keyboard, mouse, and integrate 10/1000 Lan. For $999 Of course it does not have the bigger graphics, but has all the other bits including a pretty decent monitor. This Dell Deal is good for another day or so. I am tetering on ordering one...Is it worth sleeping in the doghouse for weeks in this cold weather? ![]() |

Humm ... your total above is ~$1500 with a case and drive. Difference is just ~$300. So your time to build it is worth $300 ... minus shipping, handling & tax? Small profit margin. ![]() ![]() ![]() |
