Whilst NW Europe had a cold spell, West Greenland and Northern Canada saw a period of 15C less cool of that normal and our summer, but for abundant rain in the northern provinces of Italy, more extreme weather the planet saw records of this year, we in central Italy can still say that autumn has still to arrive as we used to know it.

Yes, this is true, our north side, permanent shade of house digital weather station momentarily reading out 18.8C at 10:45AM. Last night at 03:30 it read out 19.2C... figure that.

PS, last year X-Mas was a 'hot' fortnight. We used to ski some decade ago as normal around that time (used to be none-stop from early November to well into May), but it was 21C for an extended period then in 2009 sliding into 2010. Snow came on the Oct. 23th, 2010 at the top of the Maiella and then is went and the green pasture view returned until last week. On an extended Sunday beach walk we saw a group swimming in the Adriatic. When they came out they were not pinky red, nor spooky white... the sea is way too warm.
