Stormy here in central IA. I don't think we really need more rain, but I'll take the cooler temperatures it brings.
----------------------------------------66°F Wind: N at 18 Humidity: 94% Dewpoint: 64° Pressure: 29.88 in. (rising) Sunrise: 5:39 am Sunset: 8:48 pm The NWS in des moines has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for: southeastern dallas county in central Iowa, polk county in central Iowa, Until 1130 pm cdt. At 1040 pm cdt, national weather service doppler radar indicated a severe thunderstorm capable of producing quarter size hail. This storm was located near waukee, or 13 miles west of des moines, and moving northeast at 35 mph. Edit: It's times like this that I'm glad I invested in UPS's for each of my machines.... and also for the fact that APC will re-imburse me if they don't protect my equipment. @kateiacy - I definitely recommend them. There's nothing quite like having the entire neighborhood go dark except my computer room...

Oh boy! More rain!
They'll probably extend the T-storm warning for at least another 30-45 minutes, at least for Polk county (where Des Moines is.) I think it mustiv'e read that part about "weakening over the past 15 minutes" because it seems to have done the exact opposite... 63° F Wind: E at 10 Humidity: 62% Dewpoint: 50° Pressure: 30.04 in. (falling) Sunrise: 5:39 am Sunset: 8:49 pm Severe Weather Statement: Issued at: 11:54 AM CDT 6/13/11, expires at: 12:00 PM CDT 6/13/11 A severe thunderstorm warning remains in effect for southeastern boone, northern polk and southwestern story counties until noon cdt, At 1148 am cdt, national weather service doppler radar indicated a line of severe thunderstorms capable of producing damaging winds in excess of 60 mph. Locations impacted include, Nevada, elkhart, cambridge and maxwell. This includes interstate 35 between mile markers 91 and 115. Precautionary/preparedness actions, Prepare for damaging winds, falling trees and flying debris. Move indoors and stay away from windows. If you are in a mobile home, get out now, and seek shelter in a reinforced building. Wind Advisory: Issued at: 11:48 AM CDT 6/13/11, expires at: 3:00 PM CDT 6/13/11 wind advisory in effect until 3 pm cdt this afternoon The NWS in des moines has issued a wind advisory, which is in effect until 3 pm cdt this afternoon. Winds, winds of 45 to 55 mph will follow the thunderstorms as they pass to the east this afternoon. Impacts, loose objects will be blown around. High profile vehicles traveling on north south roads will experience difficulty driving for several hours late this morning and early afternoon. Precautionary/preparedness actions, A wind advisory means that winds of 30 mph are expected. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra caution. |

Late last night we saw something which will have been Cirrus clouds , a phenomena that has been observed more frequently up in the more northern latitudes for the past 50 years and increasing, having a heat retention effect.
At any rate, hurrah we just seen a small sheep cloud drifting by [for the known sheep albedo effect], midday. Other than that, the picture is as it's been now for longer: ![]() RealFeel® 37°C Winds NNE 11 km/h Relative Humidity 61% Dew Point 22°C Barometric Pressure 1015 mb Pressure Tendency Unavailable Visibility 16 km Sunrise 5:26 AM Sunset 8:44 PM Lying low, staying inert, don't move till the sun dives behind the NW hilltop... 6.5 more hours. Luckily the grass has stopped vehement growth... what else when there's so little humidity left in the soil...skipping scheduled mowing \o/ --//-- PS: 3 degrees Celsius less than SNURK experiences last year down in Bella Italia... 3 weeks long :O) |
