Re: WEATHER WEATHER WEATHER WEATHER

*smacks forehead*
Here I am in another thread saying how much I like official sources, then I completely overlook NOAA on the weather front...

I'll go back and edit that last post.... NOAA's info is much better.

Also, send those clouds my way.... I could use a good storm right now...

(And that photo of the red spot is VERY impressive, I don't think I've seen one that good before)

Except for that part in Texas where it's off the scale... Is that Houston or Dallas?

''Feeling'' for you guys. Was in the Sahara early past decade for an odd week and we experienced 51C, the actual thermometer reading on an official Stevenson standard screen system, which set a new official record [since broken by 57C]. The weirdest is, you don't notice to sweat. Drinking 4-5 liters a day of water, plus what's in food, your skin just would turn salt covered. Test on dehydration: Pull up [with 2 fingers] the skin on back of hand with. If not flattening back fairly quickly you know you're already on the brink of trouble.

By comparison, it is not so bad here, not any extremes. We have a period now of about 16-18 days without any rain, mostly blue sky, humidity 65%, dew point 64, in Fahrenheit. Every day over 30C [88-90F]. The house / outdoor plants are just gulping and blowing water to stay cool. 10 gallons needed to not cause them to just shrivel [mostly water from airco condensate we capture and reuse]. The ~2,500 olive trees around the house [once 3,000] can't be bothered... good setting of fruit this time on the ones that blossomed in spring... we might have a small harvest late September or October [it's not fully operated, mainly left alone as part of a provincial community green protection scheme enacted in 1998] but many were pruned significantly as getting top heavy. Not cut anything between the trees to protect the soil [eco farming style] should flash-floods come. On a hill, that's a bad situation. Chick swallows are holding out in the shade hopping around mom [I think] who likes to loose them, pitifully vibrating their wings and holding up the beaks for food. They know staying close to the house will keep them save from the 2 birds of prey, circling on the thermics.

The world in our backyard :D
