Gosh, that was 2002. Got any new science to offer? And thanks for confirming it is a greenhouse gas... Did you miss the part about nutritional value? You'll be needing a half loaf in a few decades to get out what before was provided by a few slices. More acres of land needed to grow food... cut down more forest. No its called no till--and rotate crops |

David Autumns, start working on your anger management and your interpretations what was meant with the analogy of what excess CO2 does. CO2 increase also affects the respiratory functions of plants... they bloat because of those, you know, stomato closing. Try a Dutch Greenhouse gas tomato over a Greek one from out in the open and you will find out.
----------------------------------------Then, start reading beyond the lines you like... the algae blooms are being augmented by the fertilizers and what not and the warming causing active eutrophycation, not mentioned the first time in this thread. On the millions of gallons of detergent dumped into the Gulf... it has broken up the oil and now bacteria are thriving and doing the very thing... missed the news on those large floats of dead fish there? PS, you might want to read up on 4 degrees Celsius water and the specific property it has.

The point being that the average human will have to grow their stomachs, grow a second one maybe, crop rotation not withstanding. Are you worried about the safety of your food? The Russians just lost a large part of their wheat crop and the soil this summer went bone dry to 3 meters deep, when normally moist all up to the surface... the farmers are gravely concerned that the winter wheat might not set and 2011 harvest could turn out no better... noticed the food price explosion? We do!

We do! Yes i do notice the food prices--ethanol not good for engines and using crops that could be food.Ask the Americans about the drought in the 30s where a lot of people starved to death--it happens--some countrys over population--??---I Do think Dave is right in a lot of areas. There is only one thing i disagree on and that is Nuclear Energy--We have had Submarines and Aircraft Carriers since the 60s with no accidents that i know of--if its done right without greed it would solve a lot of problems for energy ?? "Agreeing To" is democratic... does not mean you've based your position on the complete and accurate information. So, when Dr. Phil Jones says the temps are up, and hundreds of studies, no thousands show that observational data is correct and the 95% confident origin says it's greenhouse gasses and us changing the surface, and David Autumns comes along and says "It "Aint True" and merely repeats dubious and debunked sources or keeps throwing around "WhiteWash WhiteWash", guess who to think is right? It's not what you know... it's what the experts know and have been warning for since at least 1896 and for you to figure out if it adds up or not. It does.
----------------------------------------Book for you to read "Unscientific America" by Oreskes out in paperback for the darker days in Maine. A good way to learn what's happening in your backyard, from a different point of view. Here's another one by here: The Rejection of Continental Drift: Theory and Method in American Earth Science / Edition 1 In the early twentieth century, American earth scientists were united in their opposition to the new—and highly radical—notion of continental drift, even going so far as to label the theory "unscientific." Some fifty years later, however, continental drift was heralded as a major scientific breakthrough and today it is accepted as scientific fact. Why did American geologists reject so adamantly an idea that is now considered a cornerstone of the discipline? And why were their European colleagues receptive to it so much earlier? This book, based on extensive archival research on three continents, provides important new answers while giving the first detailed account of the American geological community in the first half of the century. Challenging previous historical work on this episode, Naomi Oreskes shows that continental drift was not rejected for the lack of a causal mechanism, but because it seemed to conflict with the basic standards of practice in American geology. This account provides a compelling look at how scientific ideas are made and unmade. There's even some opponents who've come to peddle that continents don't drift but the earth ball is growing from inside... soon journey to the centre of the earth. Sigh

Here's an interesting factoid: The depletion of the groundwater and aquifers around the world is good for 0.8 of the current mean 3.1 mm annual Sea Level Rise. Man taketh, but does not put back!
----------------------------------------Edit: Link http://www.igrac.net/publications/422 and snip: The results show that the areas of greatest groundwater depletion are in India, Pakistan, the United States and China. Therefore, these are areas where food production and water use are unsustainable and eventually serious problems are expected. The hydrologists estimate that from 1960 to 2000 global groundwater abstraction has increased from 312 to 734 km3 per year and groundwater depletion from 126 to 283 km3 per year. Serious problems expected? They're already there.

----------------------------------------![]() and here's the apology http://www.1010global.org/no-pressure Sorry. Today we put up a mini-movie about 10:10 and climate change called 'No Pressure’. With climate change becoming increasingly threatening, and decreasingly talked about in the media, we wanted to find a way to bring this critical issue back into the headlines whilst making people laugh. We were therefore delighted when Britain's leading comedy writer, Richard Curtis - writer of Blackadder, Four Weddings, Notting Hill and many others – agreed to write a short film for the 10:10 campaign. Many people found the resulting film extremely funny, but unfortunately some didn't and we sincerely apologise to anybody we have offended. As a result of these concerns we've taken it off our website. We won't be making any attempt to censor or remove other versions currently in circulation on the internet. We'd like to thank the 50+ film professionals and 40+ actors and extras and who gave their time and equipment to the film for free. We greatly value your contributions and the tremendous enthusiasm and professionalism you brought to the project. At 10:10 we're all about trying new and creative ways of getting people to take action on climate change. Unfortunately in this instance we missed the mark. Oh well, we live and learn. Onwards and upwards, Franny, Lizzie, Eugenie and the whole 10:10 team As for esoteric17's plastic bag remark one of my school friends lost his Mother that way But hey Sek says I should "start working on my anger management" and I should believe everything I read as gospel. No pressure apparently ![]() Dave ![]() |

Serious problems expected? They're already there.--- Concerning underground water you are correct--in Virginia the is a natural underground flow from the mountains to the coast. There are two pulp plants here that take millions of gallons of water from deep wells to process their products--wells in this area went dry at twenty feet and the water from the Chesapeake Bay is creeping inland--salt water ruining many wells--i live on the Bay and have this problem. In Christianburg Va. there is a river that disappears into the mountain and helps supply the ground water.I have seen this and its amazing--
