Re: Not sure how much longer they will be able to keep crunching in the UK

Good Morning Sek From Beautiful Maine-- wink

Hows the man in Maine Headline follower? Does it rain, in Maine. Here the long long summer is slowly trundling out... still it's shirtsleeve weather... no coat, just carry the umbrella in case there is again one of these inexplicable rain burst coming out of nowhere... a phenomena this year not seen before by my recollection.

Here's one up your alley. This blogger is dedicated to deflate the Anthony Watts stories and appropriately has given his blog the title "Wotts up with that" http://wottsupwiththat.com/ digging out trivia as were they news or of importance. The latest scream on McKay "more ice now than 9000 years ago", and when looking closer at this 2008 paper
Oh, it's only referring to a bit of the western Arctic. Oh, they're only comparing to Arctic Sea Ice extent of a decade ago, when there was in fact rather more sea ice. Oh, they aren’t suggesting that such low ice extents were common. Oh, dinocyst proxies are a bit dodgy. Oh, the paper is merely titled Holocene fluctuations in Arctic sea-ice cover: dinocyst-based reconstructions for the eastern Chukchi Sea, not ''€œthere'™s more ice than ever now!''€

The underlined is the biggest ''left out'' by Mr. Watts. Was there not this English expression "Lying by omission". He's expert in my book.

Hour 22 biggrin

Average Temperature from 2807 Stations 16.00C

Max Temp 43C Min -12C

You know what I should do is graph this stuff and put it up on a handily named website wink

All the raw data available so anyone could, if they needed, reproduce my results shock

Sometimes Science needs an Engineer. I'll have N+1 redundancy by Christmas and N+2 by this time next year.

Call me in 50 years when your sample data is adequate enough to do longitudinal studies on. Better yet, call my grandchildren. Looking forward to the results once you have enough stations online and being recorded.

Currently you have only 1 station for every 70,000 square miles, assuming that you are sampling the temperature over the whole of the globe, not just selected areas. I hope you realize that the climate over the seas is just as important as over land. That means that there is only 1 station for every block 265 miles by 265 miles. That is like the State of California having only 4 stations. WOW, big sample.

If you are just sampling land based stations then you are at 1 per 21,000 square miles of land then you are up to 80 mile blocks and a whopping 26 stations for the 37M people in California. You have made a great start. Keep going. Whatever the results, it will be helpful, even though we may be out of oil by the time you have meaningful results.

Yep exactly the source data for the GHCN is terrible when you get close up to it . This is the source data for CRU, GISS and NCDC and consequently IPCC reports to support political action and form the foundation for policies which directly affect all of our lives.

From the 7345 weather stations in the NOAA data set only 4698 are still producing data and only 2805ish are reliably producing data around the clock where their locations are known.

I have just had to cull another one http://weather.noaa.gov/weather/current/KDIK.html

No garbage in this data set - I'll be shaking out the system up until launch on the 1st Jan 2011

astrolab I'll let you know on my 94th Birthday biggrin

by the way yesterday's average temp 17.71C. I know this is a meaningless figure but it is the trend that is significant. We'll baseline it through 2011.

Why I can't buy into the Man Made Global Warming thing...The claim that this figure could increase by 6 degrees by 2100. Even if those degrees are Fahrenheit that would make 17.71C turn into 21.04C

Although the media seem to understand it as 6C (17.71 -> 23.71C)

http://www.independent.co.uk/environment/clim...l-scientists-1822396.html

and all because of a trace gas essential for all life on earth

The previous century with an increasingly active Sun and temperature "massaging" produced a 0.73C increase

6F or 6C either way this is absolute nonsense over the next 90 years.

Definitely no increase in temperature at all if the Sun keeps on faltering like this http://www.swpc.noaa.gov/SolarCycle/

Re: Not sure how much longer they will be able to keep crunching in the UK

http://weather.noaa.gov/weather/current/DAUZ.html

one spot of finger trouble (again) and 39C turns into 93C (hence the gap in the 24 hour data)

93C already collected before it was rectified

METAR 261300Z 18010KT 7000 NSC 93/09 Q1011

What temperature should I set as the threshold over which erroneous data like above should be dumped overboard?

Or is this another station to be abandoned?
