it will take us 60 years to complete this project! laughing tongue

Project launch: 2/17/2010
Today: 6/3/2010

only Results Returned 201,009

Results Per Calendar Day 1,932.78

https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/...d,28748_offset,100#274957

44,000,000 WUs / 2,000 avg WUs per day = 22,000 days = 60 years

Re: At this rate

Hey eso, try this. divide the number of results returned by the number of days the project has been crunched, not the number of days the project has been running (intermittently)

That's not my point though. My point is this incredibly intermittent process of waiting for the researchers to provide us with WUs is just not going to work...

It's taken 3.5 months to produce 200,000 WUs out of 44,000,000

Re: At this rate

I think the point that is being missed is that if the timeline works for the researchers, it should be good enough for us. They set the schedule, not us.

Even if it takes 60 years? UTMB has underestimated in the past how long a project would take:

Re: At this rate

well I can do it in 38 min, but results will not be what they want, so if they need more time to get it right who are we to complain.

Re: At this rate

As far as I've been able to tell (I'm sure someone will correct if I'm wrong), we are in a sort of "set up" phase. That is, making sure things work correctly and smoothly, before releasing the deluge. I sincerely doubt it will take 60 years once things are running full-speed.

Estimating the total duration of this project at this stage is about as meaningful as estimating how long it will take you to drive from New York to Washington while you are still stuck in the traffic in the heart of Manhattan. smile

That's how research works. I personally think that this is an excellent sign, because it shows that the researchers take their job very seriously, rather than just sending out WUs and later on find out that - oops - it should have been done differently.

Give them the time they need, they probably know what they do. cool Badges should not be their #1 priority (although I cannot wait to get this 1 hour more to achieve at least the brown badge biggrin ).

Regards,
Martin
