Yeah, I figured that I need to get to the right directory. Executing it from the file browser (like Windows) doesn't work. So, I found a website with ubuntu commands and figured out how to get to the desktop. So the prompt now looks like ~/Desktop$ . But it still doesn't work. I typed the command in multiple times. I tried prefacing it with a secret command, like "sudo" and "exec" but that didn't work. I also tried "run". I also tried dropping off the .sh at the end. The "ls" command shows that the file is right there, ready to run, but when I type in the command, it says command not found. There must be something simple that I'm missing. It's no wonder that Linux hasn't really caught on, if it's a step back to 1981 cryptic command prompts.
Also, I tried using the tab key, but it would only list a few of the several thousand possibilities. I hunt and pecked until typing 'exit' got me out of that mess. I noticed that it opened this into an existing thread after I entered it, but there was no way to change the entry after posting it. |

What distro are you using, you could probably just install it via the relevant package manager, and save you having to use "1981 cryptic commands"?. B |

I got another one crashed - the complete computer again:
----------------------------------------![]() Result Name: c4cw_ target03_ 001256864_ 0-- ERROR: Out of range atoms - cannot compute PPPM But at my opinion this are not only the WUs who make this, it have something to do with Firefox cause the PC crunched all the time, night and day - and only get errors if i sit before it and surf the web... I don't believe this; but it is mysteriously! ![]() LAZA

By 'distro' do you mean Ubuntu? Or, are you asking where I got it? The IT team at Impact installed it for me. I'd really look forward to using a package manager, but I don't know where to get that.

The package manager is under administrator settings. Click on it, in the search, type boinc. You will see what needs to be checked to install.

Victory! It was actually under System... Administration... Synaptic Package Manager, but I found it! A couple clicks and it's installed.

Victory! It was actually under System... Administration... Synaptic Package Manager, but I found it! A couple clicks and it's installed. Yeah, that's the beauty of a Package Manager, if you don't want to play on the command line with "1981" commands ![]() I see that the repositories (which is what the package manager uses) have the same version of Boinc that's available on the website. I must still try BOINC again in Linux, to see if the errors persist. B |
