Re: smilesmile Join "MyOnlineTeam" Today - Chapter 47 smilesmile

Brown Chris is moving nicely up the ranks!

The electricity bill is getting out of control, so I'm getting 5.7Kw of solar panels installed. That should be happening in about a week. It should take my electricity bill that is around $350 a month to about $100.
The panels are leased for 10 years, and I have to pay them $103 a month so I'm still quite a bit ahead every month.
If I had to actually buy them, the panels alone would be over $55,000. The company is claiming all of the tax credits, but that's okay since I will be paying less every month.
On another note, I had to set up a server that had dual i7 xeon processors in it. It had 16 GB of memory, but I had to install the 32-bit version of server 2008 on it (due to compatibility with the database it had to run).
I couldn't resist running Boinc on it, so I set it up to run the CEP project on all 16 processors. It chocked in about an hour and all of the WU's returned an error.
Then I limited it to one CEP wu, and let it run anything else that WCG would throw at it.
It was amazing to watch this computer running 16 processors crunching away at WCG projects.
I eventually had to uninstall Boinc, but for four days it delivered results.
Now I want one! That box was a true cruncher!
Oh yeah, the server only cost $25,000.

Hey Chris. Who does not want a machine like that? How much memory did it have? Seems like a terrible waste to have a 32bit Opsys on it, since I would guess it has 8GB of memory or more and is now using less than 3 (IFRC).

It had 16 GB. You are correct, only 3 GB was available to use, though.
The server was designed to be a database server, and it's going to be running a program called Aloha. That's a program for cash registers and there are only going to be 4 cash registers connected to this thing.
The version of Aloha that we received will only run on 32-bit operating systems (sigh).

For some reson it seems that servers with Xenon processors do not like to run CEP-2. s my 2 cpu Xenon server flipped out on CEP-2 as earlier posts noted. Now building a new machine and trying to decide between Xeon or AMD Magny- Course (SP).

Wow... Talk about using a sledge hammer to swat a fly! It sounds like a P4 could handle that just fine - even a dual core. It would be great if you could talk them into letting some number of WCG tasks run in the background but it sounds like you have already been down that road. sad
