It will be interesting to see the changes when everything is stable.
----------------------------------------Don't recall the time period in the avg calculation for the signature. It certainly is shorter (and more reasonable) than the "member since" used by WCG. Averaging over 30 days is much more realistic than over 5 years. ![]() ![]() Please join the team The survivors ![]() |

Are you familiar with the term "liminal"?
----------------------------------------Here is the definition from World English Dictionary liminal (ˈlɪmɪn ə l) --adj psychol relating to the point (or threshold) beyond which a sensation becomes too faint to be experienced [C19: from Latin limen threshold] This is a perfect term to describe the threshold where the number of WCG projects exceeds the number of CPUs (actual + virtual) needed to meet your goals. Below that threshold you will never achieve your goals in regards to new badges. I don't know the actual number, ratio, or percentage that can be defined as the badge liminal because it has too many variables. Any thoughts on this? ![]() ![]() Please join the team The survivors ![]() |

Well, well, well, let's take Brazil - we might meet some coffee
----------------------------------------![]() ![]() - and Korea - south of the 38th parallel I take it. After that we might have some more Sweden popping up ![]() - the crossing from Denmark to Sweden - lovely bridge EDIT: Didn't notice this: Are you familiar with the term "liminal"? No. Sorry, captain rcc. For once - happens very rarely - I'm at a loss of words. Here is the definition from World English Dictionary liminal (ˈlɪmɪn ə l) --adj psychol relating to the point (or threshold) beyond which a sensation becomes too faint to be experienced [C19: from Latin limen threshold] ![]() If it was not used in connection with WCG, I would have thought along the lines of the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale about the 10 feathers that turned into 5 hens .... ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at May 1, 2012 7:43:07 PM] |

little mermaid,
----------------------------------------Not to worry. This is theoretical and may have no basis. If that's true why bring it up? Because I have a lot of time on my hands and nothing to do. ![]() ![]() Please join the team The survivors ![]() |

The liminal for WCG depends on the number of projects started in a given time, not necessarily just the total number of projects. Until now, I have been below the liminal because too many projects have started in too short a time. It is my understanding that there may be a lull now, so I may be able to catch up -- I would like to get emerald badges for all the projects that are still running and then move on to sapphire. It all depends on when they add more new projects

After running Pentiums for a number of years it is safe to say that it would take a dozen of them to get any decent results.
----------------------------------------There are some members that like to brag about their years of run time per project. Some of them don't know why they are crunching here. I know I can't top them but think about this. There is no way to get badges in the closed projects. So even with decades of run time there are some project badges I have that they can't get. That gives me a leg up on them. So I feel pretty good with the badges collected since 2007. You also should feel good with what you have. Having multi colored badges is an honor that some in the sapphire crowd will never understand. ![]() ![]() Please join the team The survivors ![]() |

yes you can not get any retired projects badges...
----------------------------------------each and every badge of any color shows you work on the projects... heck there is one project i am like 12 hours away from bronze... oh well my current goal is at least a gold in any project from there i determine if i will increase the badges.. or just run multiple... if the project seems useful in some way i will work up the way i can... even a person who has one badge and one old slow CPU is worth it here. Yes i have a decent number of computers but each of them is in my house running on my power... some people have a campus or business or other large group of computers that is just out there crunching.. those people should have it by business name and not there own in my opinion ![]() |
