We all are. That's why we crunch. I began in 2001 for other friends. The latest lost was Mona on 17 February of this year - lost to ovarian. Can't stop until cancer is stopped, even if I'm down to one machine at times.
Might as well have fun while we do it! I take my editing and grammar skills from writing and use them to teach local immigrants in my community. Makes for a better world when we can all talk to each other. |

I started with United Devices after being diagnosed with cancer in 2000. Don't remember the year. Moved to WCGrid when UD shut down. The stats show 10 devices but there are just 3 working with 1 desktop that won't boot and 1 laptop that won't communicate with the network.
----------------------------------------I lost my mother to breast cancer, she was 52. Although cancer is a collection of over 100 diseases it has a common thread in that it is a malfunction of normal cell division and death. I believe that common thread has a solution at the DNA or molecular level and that finding a cure via research at WCGrid will open the door to solving all cancers. That is why I crunch for a cure. I appreciate everyone on the grid for donating wasted CPUs for humanitarian research. I just don't understand why everyone on the planet is not crunching. ![]() ![]() Please join the team The survivors |

I'm completely with you, rcc
----------------------------------------I charge the UD community with keeping me above water in 2003 when my breast cancer surfaced giving me the warmth and support I couldn't find anywhere else. I charge my old Base Camp friends and UD'ers in the WCG community and new friends here with helping me back to life after having to give up my marriage of 40 years. - so I can only repeat what I have mentioned several times: I love you ![]() I shall - when I get myself organized a little better - do what I can to "contract" more crunchers - and catching some "big fish" - businesses with a lot of otherwise wasted cycles would be just great. I wish I could do as Lonnie from Boise, Idaho - he planted the equivalent of the BOINC program in every computer he encountered. Soldiers, he called them. Oh, I miss him. He was on UD with us in Team Liberty before Base Camp was born and he came to us there. Does anybody here know his whereabouts? [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Oct 5, 2011 5:29:54 PM] |

We haven't done the crunching dance in ages. No clue about Lonnie. We lost a bunch of folks in the migration to FAD

Do you mean this one?
I spent ages to find it. I never got around to saving it - but I remember it inspired PecosRiverM and deltavee doing their morning exercise - twice - even thrice - and mainly the eyes It may be a Texas thing ... ![]() Baila y Gana! |

I did not notice the challenge for Steve Jobs but I like it and will join it.

Thank you.
All of us remaining-with-you-Base-Campers look forward to running with you. We had one more joining today: Lone_Wolf but we shall expect more leaving for their home teams. But let's see how we do. It's kind of educating for me who is more a socializer than a competing cruncher to try this angle as well. How does one sign up for these challenges? Base Camp cannot really do it under normal circumstances - we have no team members - they are gone with the wind to all corners of WCG - except for our newest member - B2I who minds the business right now. ![]() |
