Rod, that is a very gracious offer and I would really like to take you up on it, but the Mrs said that there are other places she wold like to go to first. If you can wait for a year or 2, I can swing her around. Do you reckon you could tolerate the peacocks and the cat farm? ![]()

Morning everyone.
----------------------------------------Nice clear coolish sunny day today. The peacocks are surprisingly quiet and the cats are lying on the grass sunning themselves. Up until fairly recently we have had a family of 4 Rheas (a flightless bird oof the ostrich family) living and roaming free in the condominium. In the past they have raised chicks but the population has never seemed to exceed 4 birds. Now, in the past couple of months, two of them have met violent deaths. One was killed while sitting on eggs (four of which have been subsequently hatched) and the other was killed yesterday by what appears to be a heavy blow (car?). This is rather worrying as the Rheas bother no one but keep the insect and snake populations down. Investigation is in progress!

Rod, ¡Aprender español! Sin preocupaciones. Puedo aprender lo básico de hablar español bastante rápido, entender lo que alguien me está diciendo en español le tomará un poco más de tiempo.
----------------------------------------Thank heavens for Google Translate :) DC, Cats and peacocks do not worry me, I think they will be more worried with Daniel chasing them everywhere! ![]() |

all this talk of peacocks reminds me of when I was posted to Berlin. We used to visit pfaueninsel (peacock island ) on the Havel. Loads of peacocks there.

Tell me about it - I've been here over 5 years and a lot of it still sounds like gobledegook even though I can speak fairly well. For instance take mierda and mierdo (**** and fear), casada and cansada (married and tired), embarrasoso and embarrasada (embarrassed and pregnant). It's a crazy language. *edited to appropriate forum language - ErikaT

English also has crazy bits. There and Their, Bow (as in bow and arrow) and bow (from the waist). Bow and bough, Bough, rough, deer dear...grove love. I learned German during the 6 years I lived there and one thing I realised is that spelling and pronunciation is always the same.
