Re: Good morning everyone

After spending 6 hours in Hospital, 4 of which were recovery, I am pleased to report that I have no heart issues and no sign of blockage of any arteries. My left wrist sure as hell hurts as the surgeon had to dig around to find the artery, he said it was very small because I am a small person, no doubt.
Told him that I have one in there somewhere, I promise, but he did not find it funny.

Re: Good morning everyone

Hey Steve, you seem to be in the wars of late. I hope that your procedure went OK. Do you get to keep the 'Blue Blood'?
Hospitals are no fun - even for tests.

Re: Good morning everyone

Good morning all.
I don't envy your UK weather. Unless you are up in the Andes, snow is unheard of here in Bolivia. The coldest temperature that I have experienced here is 9C in mid winter and that is only when the wind veers to blow from the south (Antarctica). La Paz can experience very cold (sub zero) days but, because of the altitude (3,800 m) it tends to be clear and dry. Keep warm everyone!

Re: Good morning everyone

Thanks Tom and Rod, I am as well as I can be, have had a really good year and I hope it continues.
I am envious of your weather Rod, though nothing wrong with a bit of snow now and then.

So after praising the weather here we had the most spectacular and violent thunderstorm last night with buckets of (warm) rain. After losing around 12Tb of HDDs and two televisions last time I was rushing around frantically unplugging devices. Not all is paradise!

Re: Good morning everyone

I have a UPS which has saved my bacon and CPU's many times over the years. We have a power station a few miles down the road at the end of Islandmagee, yet we have numerous brown outs and black outs every year, guarenteed to happen when the wind blows hard.

Re: Good morning everyone

Good Morning All

The problem that we have here is that we are on a two wire system with no (local) earth connection. Given a lightning strike, the only path to generator earth is through my equipment. What I do not understand is that the HDDs have gone down even though they were connected via a 12V switching power supply that ought to absorb some peaks at least. I did buy a UPS but I think the letters of mine stand for Useless Piece of Sh*t. (I wonder if the PC Police will pick that one up as inappropriate for this forum?)

Re: Good morning everyone

I would have expected the PS to pop its cork before letting a high current out onto the MB.
Your definition of UPS is fine, I think most of us knows of some computer hardware that is fully UPS compliant.
