I totally agree with you, Pwhidden.
----------------------------------------These are simple problems (disk space), and I'm really baffled why it is still an issue when earlier updates said they had the tape and were copying the data. I expected a week or two of bumps and then solved. I also thought it had been solved when WCG released more WUs. I will continue to say that if there are issues they really should concentrate their energy on the extremes, so that when the project does get back to flowing that this time won't have been wasted. I know if they could give us a good idea of the problem and the plan that many of us would donate money to the solution if that would help. If they only ran and ran the 3 ultras in the meantime for 80 generations, they would cut 3 months off the eventual end date. That would only need about 24 gigabytes of space or 1 USB flash drive. Most of us could spare 1 of those!

You are so right, Mike. Totally baffling why they don't do this.

Mike & Unixchick,
----------------------------------------I like your idea however I do not think this will work mainly due to the speed that data can be transferred onto the drive and I don't know if you can set a pen drive up to directly receive the data that we send it back to the server's. I would like to think if this idea was doable it would have been looked into/done ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Speedy51 at Jun 6, 2023 3:46:42 AM] |

Branded SSD with 5 Years of warranty are priced less than 40 €($) / Terabyte.
Wouldn't this be a kind solution ? Though it is the older PCIe 3.0 standard this would work in a sufficient speed. |

The reference to a USB Flash Drive was purely to illustrate how little space would be needed for those 3 units even for 80 generations. Mike |

----------------------------------------I understand this. My reference was the fact that I am not sure if it is possible to copy the data we upload directly to a USB drive. I am taking a guess and saying that WCG do not have the hard drive space required to complete these currently ![]() |

Although I may be in error, I thought the drive space issue was at ARP1’s end not WCG’s.

Although I may be in error, I thought the drive space issue was at ARP1’s end not WCG’s. Yes you are right. What I was saying is WCG may not have hard drive storage space to be able to hold the amount of work needed until ARP 1 is ready to accept work again ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Speedy51 at Jun 7, 2023 12:31:45 AM] |
