Your mentioned workunit has a replication of 2 and the normal deadline. Not the 1.5 day deadline.

Re: Work Available

Looks like the test period is over. I'm seeing some units crunching now with normal deadlines.

I've also noticed one other odd thing - when I'm getting ARP tasks, my MCM tasks also tend to crunch faster. I've seen this both on the old Ryzen 7 1700 and the i9-12900HK (a mini PC). I suspect there's some sort of caching issue at play, even though I don't max out my threads and have plenty of RAM on both systems. It might just be a coincidence, but I'll take it...

Re: Work Available

I'm still not getting any workunits. Is there anything I'm doing wrong or so? ARP is checked in the device profile, but it keeps saying "no work available" on all my hosts...

Re: Work Available

Wildhagen -
first - very few ARPs were going out. you could just be unlucky.
second - the ARPs were all extreme units which required a "reliable" machine setting. I'm not sure what that entails, but they may exclude certain machines, certain types of machines or machines that haven't crunched ARP WUs before, or in a while. discuss or argue this points as you wish. I have no knowledge of how it works, only guesses.

good news is that they are now sending out non extreme ones, so your chances improve of getting one now.

Re: Work Available

First two ARP tasks since the downtime completed. 2 more downloading as I type. I have maximum number of ARP tasks to crunch at once set to 15 (N-1 where N is the number of real cores on the machine) but so far not getting more than 2 at once. I can cope with that at the moment but if the temperature drops I will need to re-enable MCM tasks to get my office heater to work.

Re: Work Available

ARP is not recommended for anyone who doesn't crunch 24/7.

Message received Mike.

Such a shame I have goals I will not be able to achieve even though I have adequate RAM & CPU. Even though I complete work before the deadline is due. Since I do not run 24/7. I will no longer processed this project. What a loss for the project scientists :-( :-(

Mike continuing on from my post above could you please either provide a link or quote where you got the the information about it "not been recommended for anyone to run ARP if they cannot run 24/7"? Thanks in advance

Re: Work Available

I think the 24/7 recommendation is because BOINC calculates if you can finish the WU based on it being able to work on it all the time, and the save points on ARP are rather far apart (every 12.5%), so it causes many to not finish on time, if you ask for many WUs and/or the WUs have a really short finish time (1.5 days - like extreme ARPs).

If you finish your ARPs in the allotted time, then no worries. you are not causing a bunch of resends.

Re: Work Available

The other point is that, historically, the code ARP is based on is intolerant of restarts and will crash if not kept in memory.
