Re: Work Available

As has been noted, there are fewr extremes - only 376 including the 3 ultras.
There are 537 accelerated in 132 & over 5000 in 133 & 134 so even they don't go far round.
So now we are into normals - there are about 1000 total between 137, 138, & 139.
Then we get into bigger numbers.

Whenever a validation would normally occur (2 matching results), they are compared with the actual weather that occurred before the next generation is launched. As different parts of Africa have reached different generations, it is quite possible for the generations you receive to fluctuate with only a general tendency to increase.

The maximum number of copies that can be out with us is about 70000, hence the lack of full cache.

Re: Work Available

Mike, as luck would have it I have decided to process work again since there is no mention in the minimum system requirements for this project that you need to run your computer 24/7

Re: Work Available

Thanks Mike, that helps me understand the system and my struggle to keep enough cores crunching to only need my computer to heat my home office!

Re: Work Available

Speedy, if you can finish your ARP1-tasks within 24 hours (or even 36 would be good enough), then I would say to go right ahead and start crunching 'em!

Returning tasks within 36 hours is needed for Extreme workunits and I believe your computer is fast enough. Didn't you mention that you were considering to buy a Ryzen 9 7950X?

I have seen systems taking almost 36 hours to compute a task where returning within 72 hours was obliged (for Accelerated workunits):
(Output generated by ”wcgstats -frrr= 655363247”)
workunit 655363247
ARP1_0025831_133_0 CentOS Linux Valid 2025-01-27T19:48:31 2025-01-30T07:27:37 34.94/35.71 745.4/669.8
ARP1_0025831_133_1 Fedora Linux Valid 2025-01-27T19:48:29 2025-01-29T02:24:52 29.73/30.40 594.1/669.8

Re: Work Available

Adriver,
I have a Ryzen9 7950X On Linux most tasks take less than 5 hours. Windows in a VM just over 7.

That's really interesting. Is the Windows in VM on the same system (7950X)? That is such a massive difference.

I feel that the advancement in CPUs/RAM is nowhere more evident than ARP work units. Our old Xeons take over a day (running just 1 WU) while our newest Intel just "tears" through them (relatively speaking, for how computationally large these work units are).

Re: Work Available

Yes. It's pretty amazing that we thought we hit the power wall years ago and here we are with lower-power processors that are four times faster than 10 years ago.

Adri, thanks for your vote of confidence. I know I can complete the results in the required time. The reason why I stopped was I was taking the following instructions posted on
Jan 24, 2025 by Mark (who I have respect for) literally
ARP is not recommended for anyone who doesn't crunch 24/7.

I believe your computer is fast enough. Didn't you mention that you were considering to buy a Ryzen 9 7950X?

Yes I believe I have a fast machine however I don't recall considering getting the CPU you mentioned above. I was using a 7900X then I switched to Intel now have a 14900KF

Speedy,
I think you mean Mike (not Mark).
Cheers,
