Re: A few unusual HPF2 work units

by mr. hardin

Eventually the client will terminate the application

would you please clarify this for me? confused by client do you mean the wcg client and not the boinc client? i have never had boinc terminate a stuck workunit. in fact one of my teamates wrote a little program to abort stuck workunits because they wouldn't die a natural death.

Didactylos,

what makes you think that hpf2 is finished? viktor says
We are pausing the HPF2 project temporarily

Re: A few unusual HPF2 work units...my own tricky device

I aborted a unit this morning after having it hang for nearly six hours.
System:
P4 2.4GHz 512Mb ram (DDR 266) no previous problems, not overclocked.

O/S:
Linux (Ubuntu 5.10, latest kernel)
5.4.9 Boinc client

Swap file enabled.

Unit:
za117_01261_6
Downloaded 26 July, 00:18 GMT

I tried rebooting the system but it just went back to the last checkpoint and hung up again after about 18 minutes.

Actually, that would have been 00:18 LOCAL time, or 14:18 GMT. Sorry about that.

Re: A few unusual HPF2 work units...my own tricky device

Interesting that you 'downloaded' on July 26. HPF2 has been temporarily suspended...no more Work Units being send out now for a week, unless they are still trying to fill gaps on WU's where they cant find a quorum of 3 to agree i.e. 'valid'. It's all the more odd as i've finished 2 Za's i made a separate post about. They were send in previous 2 days, each had 1 invalid and 2 valids, but no new WU copy send out to get to the 3rd valid copy. Normally 2 would remain in 'inconclusive' and an additional copy send....did not see any comment on that.

FYI: I too am working on a HPF2 unit downloaded yesterday, za119_00273_6.
It has been crunching for 18 hours and is at 35%. Is there a way to tell if its working or not? It seems to be stuck.

Re: A few unusual HPF2 work units

My 2 machines downloaded 4 Za work units yesterday. 1 turned out valid and 3 invalid!

Computer ID:33205
AMD Opteron 165(dual core) overclocked to 2.8GHz
2GB DDR400 RAM
BOINC 5.4.9
Windows XP SP2

za119_ 00408 invalid
za119_ 00896 invalid
za121_ 00667 (currently inconclusive but I'm betting mine is invalid)

Re: A few unusual HPF2 work units

Hi brinktastee,
Yes, I too have noticed that some HPF2 units are still going out. Not many, but it is obviously more than just completing quorums. I expect we will hear more about the debugging effort, but until then, if they seem stuck then use Dagorath's Definitive Guide to HPF2 Dumping: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=7876#64047
