Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Weather is sure nice here, freezing and forecast promise four more inch for Easter tongue

It's a balmy 59F (15C) here today. Love it!
Got the peppers started indoors and they are 3 inches high already. coffee

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

I don't use TRiXX, it is not recommended for my card. Here is the app_info file I use for the current MW GPU app:

<app_info>
<app>
<name>milkyway</name>
</app>
<file_info>
<name>milkyway_separation_1.02_windows_x86_64__opencl_amd_ati.exe</name>
<executable/>
</file_info>
<app_version>
<app_name>milkyway</app_name>
<version_num>102</version_num>
<flops>1.0e11</flops>
<avg_ncpus>0.05</avg_ncpus>
<max_ncpus>1</max_ncpus>
<plan_class>ati14ati</plan_class>
<coproc>
<type>ATI</type>
<count>0.5</count>
</coproc>
<cmdline>--gpu-target-frequency 10 --gpu-disable-checkpointing</cmdline>
<file_ref>
<file_name>milkyway_separation_1.02_windows_x86_64__opencl_amd_ati.exe</file_name>
<main_program/>
</file_ref>
</app_version>
</app_info>

Screen lag is acceptably low (for me). If you do not want to run 2 WUs at a time, change the <count>0.5<</count> value to a 1.0

I underclock the memory in CCC. If you want to know how I will post it.

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Running milkyway (as of today) and primegrid with the gpu's. Primegrid has now a boinc app for the gpu looking for world record primes. Takes my nVidia 470 8 days to crunch one unit. shock

Are you running prime grid and milkyway on separate cards? Curious how running 2 GPU projects on one GPU would work out sharing. Still haven't received my mobo back from supermicro yet but looking for good crunching card for that one. Hard to find another ATI 6950. The 7900 series are out of my price range (but trying to scrape together for the 7950 if I can). biggrin

I have 2 cards in one PC. I'm attached to 3 grid projects. WCG, PG and MW all weighted equally on the GPUs.

<main_program/>
</file_ref>
</app_version>
</app_info>

You can play with gpu-target-frquency to get different amounts of GPU usage. It works backwards from what you think. Raising the number will give you less gpu usage, lowering it will give you more.
If you plan to try it you must complete all the work in your cache first. If you use it before you do that any tasks in cache will be reported as errors. Once you have that file in place you can stop BOINC and make changes to it without that problem. Just make sure you don't move the file.
The file must be placed into the milkeyway project folder, not the BOINC folder. I haven't tried running 2 tasks at a time with this file. You can try it if you'd like by changing the <count>1</count> to <count>.50</count>
Have fun. biggrin

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Thanks Brink for the info. Another question I have is do you have 2 x16 PCI-E slots or 1 x16 and 1 x8? If its the second, from what I understand, if both slots are used, the x16 will drop down to x8. Curious if you notice any degrading in performance if the x16 drops to x8.

Thanks Nanoprobe for the info. Will have to wait a bit until I empty my cache.

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

I think they are still having some problems. The nightly update was somehow not correct. Maybe it will be fixed tomorrow.

Cheers

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Played with trixx a little more tonight. Like the custom fan settings (graph) that adjust on its own based on temps. Dropped core and memory to 100 but temps run 70C @50% fans.

Stats wrong Joe? I know I'm crunching with 21 threads but the updates show around 18 days crunched most of the time. PV jail stays around 9 pages. Been like this for over a week.
