Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Nice easy job you have. Enjoy it while you can.

Have my second cruncher back up, finally. Now to buy a good GPU for it to crunch. I hear AMD will be lowering the prices of the 7900 series. I only have PCI v2. Since the new gpu's use PCI v3, will there be a bottleneck using them? Or should I stick with the 6900 series? My ATI 6950 crunches pretty good already but hard to find them ATM.

I questioned that too, PCIe 2.x vs 3.x and the ramifications of running in a 3.0 in a 2.0 slot.
Need to dig more on THE google. tongue

Found this review. Looks like very little difference. Looks like I will save up for the 7950 unless I find something explaining not to do it.

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

A pair of robins have been building a nest on a drainpipe right outside the window of my home office. I'm looking forward to watching them raise a family there!

One of my favorite memories from when we lived in St. Paul (1985-94) was the barn swallows that nested in a cranny of our front porch. It was so much fun to see the little ones learning to fly.

I have some barn swallows here. They are such agile fliers. I don't know how they do it. They are like daredevils seeing how fast they can enter a narrow opening. Their sense of how they fly with such precision is just uncanny.

Speaking of birds, it is amazing how much damage a goose can cause to the front end of a car. Broke out the grill and piece that holds the grill. Pushed these pieces back into the air conditioner condenser which produced a hole in that. Of course the car did not do much for the goose either. Goose died from the impact. There goes any upgrade money because of the deductible. Could have bought a real nice machine for that deductible. It could have been worse however, at least the car is still drivable and nobody but the goose was hurt.

Cheers

Mount the goose's head on your computer as an cosmetic upgrade. laughing . At least it didn't come through the windshield. Glad to hear no one hurt.

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Sorry to hear about your car and the goose. At least it wasn't a deer.
