Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Some more pics.....

Subway is still under construction, so was _very_ free to keep aiming on frog perspective without hurt anybody's privacy...
Literally if I would want somebody on pic, I would need to wait some while even those are taken on very core of downtown...

Metro will be b.a.u. tomorrow, so not much that fun on future....

Statue is a little weird.

I think it is suppose to be...
It's presenting two figures existing only on local folk lore, Tursas ja vedenneito

Noh, Iku-Turso is etenal god of war. So vedenneito (mermaid) will soon be served as fish and chips...

Well, some more local mythology stuff now when I started...

This dude with hammer, is opportunist, eternal hammerer.

Here word Pohjola means Northern Land, that another word Kullevo is some bad *ss who perform some severe thinning on breathers just for fun.
Those bears on top, are carrying torch of Norhern.

This fellow on left is somehow interesting dude, he is first one mentioned on our mythology and exceptionally wise man
What makes this exceptional that all another mythologies here on Scandinavia, main charter is warrior, but here it is wise man...

Our mythology start with words:

Mieleni minun tekevi
Aivoni ajattelevi

Mind of mind is doing
Brains of my are thinking

.

Väinämöinen is also last person mentioned, here is painting called Leaving.
Child with halo is of course Jesus who did replace all local gods here and land become Catholic.....

Well then Lutherans perform revolution and loot all churches, quite much since this country has obey German church.
There is lot churches here that are older than German religion and now tide has start to turn....
German church is loosing members rapidly.

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Here is the wording from the link you provided. The last sentence is why I am under the impression the mermaid is winning.

Seamonster and the Mermaid depicts a mermaid challenging a seamonster. The subject is derived from Finnish folk poetry. The base of the fountain is red granite and the sculpture itself is bronze. Running dogs and birds are depicted in relief around the rim of the pool. There is a sense of great power about the mermaid as she forces the monster under her will.

Perhaps the caption is in error ?? Who is the winner ??

Cheers

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Looks like the mermaid holding down the beast. I'd say she is winning.

Quite hard I say....
I mean, victory in battle was gift from Iku-Turso.
So if they are fighting and gal is winning, it is because Turso let her win....

I think Turso want score some...
Well, cant blame, I sure like score lady with that torso every now and then...
I also like to play hard to get....
Darn, there is pattern here.....

Yes in deed, it's weird statue to be on public place...

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Well, I'm back. Had my flight delayed twice and got home at 2:30 AM this morning.
Other than the first day I had a wonderful trip. It was for the most part unseasonably cool weather. The salton sea was probably the hottest I've felt in a long time but the birding there was fantastic! The Kern valley was very enjoyable too. Drove from there to see the Sequoia's. Awesome site! The Channel Islands were nice, got to see the Island Scrub Jay, only place in the world to see this subspecies. Then the last day we ended in Hollywood....um, yeah, not my favorite place. Like Vagas, too many people.
Today is the first day back and I have to say one thing, I did not miss this humidity!!! sick
As soon as I get my photo's orginized I will post some.

Glad to hear you had a mostly good time and you got home safely. Looking forward to seeing some interesting pictures. After a day of storms on Wednesday, the humidity should retreat for a while along with the 90's.

Cheers
