The firewall is so locked down that any web traffic with the word boinc in it gets dropped. You can't even google the word boinc. Thats the kind of people I work for. frustrated

Our spirits in my group are pretty much crushed.

Those storms look huge. Looks like a heavy wind event for most of the state. wow!

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Woo hoo, a heavy thunderstorm here in Iowa City/Coralville! For once, I was DELIGHTED to turn off the crunching machines. Bring on the rain!

Too bad that these storms are too late to save the corn crop. The world will see high food prices after this terrible drought.

In much lesser news, I dropped below the 4500 rank in WCG points this morning:

Points Generated (Rank) 15,170,088 (#4,497)

Congrats Kate.

More power means more money. I didn't realize the amount I spent on my 2 duallys until later. Ouch. Sure cranks out the points though. Got to keep a perspective on crunching. Can run you broke. But I do feel good about the contribution. wink
Now I just need to figure out how to engage the warp drive in my systems. Scotty, help. crying

The contribution is what it's all about for sure. I have one friend who just had huge surgery for metastasized bladder cancer, and another who is in hospice care from lung cancer that went to her brain. Crunching for HCC makes me feel as if there's something I can do (besides sending cards and the like). Running the other projects also makes me feel as if I'm "part of the solution" rather than "part of the problem."

I'm hoping to add a new desktop to my tiny farm this winter -- still watching Intel and AMD before deciding what it will be. AMD Trinity is looking like a possibility -- halfway decent CPU and very powerful GPU in a very low-power envelope.
