Surely the measure should be how hard the error is to fix, not an absolute percentage? If a problem appears to be small, it might be worth fixing. For that matter, if a WCG project had a 10% error rate, but would have to be largely re-written to fix, it might be worth accepting a 10% error rate. I guess everyone will agree to that. ![]() My main point is the lack of communication causes a big waste of time. [...] I do have a lot of sympathy with your statements. Overall optimization might exclude some of the crunchers - which, by the way, currently happens by excluding the Windows users. So your idea of saying: "yes, try it on your computer, but if it is older than xyz, just do not expect the problem to be fixed is a lot less excluding" would probably be a better approach than just no communication. Here is another reason why I think adding an option to "My Projects" to say do not run this project under any circumstances would be useful since you might normally say to run any active project. However, if you keep getting Invalid for WUs for a particular project you would want to have a way to prevent any particular project from running on your computer. |

We, the users, whose machine cycles are being used, do, but that doesn't seem to be the priority of those in charge, or they'd fix the RC=0x4 bug. That's the most frustrating part of WCG, for me. The development cycle of * go to production even when beta test bugs haven't been fixed, so long as the bugs don't affect too many users Ah Ha.... you see... in reality, if there are a significant number of systems that keep presenting WU's that failed, it stress tests the schedulers real capability to determine how many emergency WU's need to be sent out for re-computation... even if it should happen to mean many more WU's are sent out than should have ever been needed in the first place. ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Jul 26, 2010 8:06:59 PM] |

Kremmen, one of the major issues with WCG, is the severe lack of resources that are available - there only being 5 techies and 3 admin people (as far as I'm aware). Thus, as has been indicated earlier on in this thread by bbover, it sounds as though they're way behind on launching new project(s), and thus, can only work on the things with the highest priority. I'm sure that, in an ideal world, with plenty of time to nail all the bugs/funnies, they'd do so (indeed, not long ago, they did spend some time attempting to resolve the long standing HPF2 issue). There have been numerous times when one (or more) of the WCG techs/admin people have been online, resolving issues/responding to queries on the forum outside of their "normal working day" ![]() gb009761, Perhaps IBM should donate just the platforms and allow others (similar to those that do open source software) to build the actual computational systems and decentralized systems to process on the cloud the respective WU's. Perhaps we'd see things turn around on what users would like to see implemented in shorter periods of time? Not intentionally knocking anyone... just a thought. |

I haven't seen any CEP2 beta tests for Windows, so I'm guessing things have been delayed from the original estimates. Is the Windows launch still planned for the original estimate of July 17th? Sorry that we forgot to give an update prior to the 17th of July. We are going to launch Windows and Mac soon but we don't have an exact date yet. And yes, each launch is preceded by a Beta test (and the Beta test is preceded by a developer test and an internal Alpha test). Here's why we had the delay... getting Q-Chem to work for CEP2 took more time than anticipated and cut into the time that we had allocated for the next project. So after the Linux launch for CEP2, we had to give some attention to the code for the next new project. I'm happy to report the grid-enablement of the code for the next new project is going quite well so we should be getting back to CEP2 Windows/Mac testing during the week of July 19. I don't know the exact date when we'll start the CEP2 Windows/Mac Beta tests but it should be in the next couple of weeks. And the next project.... Beta for that will also be starting in 2 to 3 weeks. Thanks for your patience. That was written on July 19th by one of the admins, so something should happen soon. ![]() |

So... Anyway... Back to topic... obviously not July 17th, but any guesstimates? If not no prob, just wondering. Yup Sorry and we forgot to provide an update. ![]() ![]() The new project is doing well but taking all our time and this being summer in the USA, there are vacations to consider which interfere. Here's the plan: Unless we find some major errors with the new project this week, there should be a beta starting next week, the week of August 2nd. Once the new project is in Beta and if Beta is relatively problem free, we'll get right back to finishing Windows and Mac for the Clean Energy project. Once we start, we expect the deployment to take less than 2 weeks. Thank you for your patience. |
